Saturday Night – TRAILER

As a cinema enthusiast who has seen more than a few behind-the-scenes documentaries and biopics, I must say that the upcoming film “Saturday Night” seems to be a promising addition to my collection. The trailer alone is enough to pique my interest, transporting me back to the revolutionary days of Saturday Night Live, a time when unknown comedians like John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, and Chevy Chase were about to take the world by storm.

Back in the day, around half a century ago, it was hard to fathom what Saturday Night Live would become. Conceived by producer Lorne Michaels, it showcased an array of then-unknown comedians who later skyrocketed to stardom – names like John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner, and many more. While Chevy Chase may have thought he was leading the pack, others might argue differently. The project was a significant risk, with traditional comedians criticizing it, studio heads unwilling to back it, and the crew on the brink of rebellion before the show even aired. Anything could happen during those live broadcasts, and often did – moments like Andy Kaufman’s infamous stunt where he sabotaged a live sketch remain etched in memory. The Saturday Night Live trailer, however, chronicles that turbulent 90 minutes leading up to the premiere of the groundbreaking show.

11:30 PM on October 11, 1975 marked a pivotal moment as a fierce ensemble of up-and-coming comedians and scribes reshaped television and culture forever. Directed by Jason Reitman and co-written by Gil Kenan & Reitman, the film Saturday Night recounts the real events unfolding during the 90 minutes prior to Saturday Night Live’s first airing. Laced with humor, pandemonium, and the enchantment of a revolution that nearly didn’t occur, we join in on the ticking clock as we edge closer to hearing those iconic words…

The film boasts an impressive lineup of actors such as Gabriel LaBelle, Rachel Sennott, Cory Michael Smith, Ella Hunt, Dylan O’Brien, Emily Fairn, Matt Wood, Lamorne Morris, Kim Matula, Finn Wolfhard, Nicholas Braun, Cooper Hoffman, Andrew Barth Feldman, Kaia Gerber, Tommy Dewey, Willem Dafoe, Matthew Rhys, and J.K. Simmons. Additionally, Jon Batiste and Naomi McPherson complete the ensemble cast, portraying notable figures of the era. The makeup team has done an excellent job in recreating the stars’ likenesses. Keep an eye out for who you can recognize!
