Savannah Chrisley is overjoyed to have her dad Todd Chrisley back home.

After being pardoned by former President Donald Trump and leaving prison, the Chrisley Knows Best star and his wife Julie Chrisley were overjoyed to reunite weeks later. Their 27-year-old daughter celebrated this special moment by sharing a heartwarming video on Father’s Day, marking his first day back home.

On this Father’s Day, things are changing a bit,” Savannah wrote alongside an Instagram video showing them hugging as he exits Federal Prison Camp Pensacola. “I truly miss you, Daddy!

Eventually, Savannah continued her efforts for her parents’ freedom until Todd and Julie, who were originally scheduled for release in 2032 and 2028, had their convictions for wire fraud, attempted bank fraud, and defrauding the U.S. government overturned.

Savannah clarified to the media during a recent press conference in Nashville that the most common misunderstanding at present is people thinking she either bought or earned a pardon through sleep for some offense. In simpler terms, she was saying that this is currently the main misunderstanding.

She added, “If more folks realized how many hours, dollars, and minutes I invested in traveling to Washington D.C., even without any scheduled meetings, just hopping on a plane and showing up, believing I’d find myself in the perfect place at the ideal moment to connect with the right individuals.

At a family news conference held later on, both Savannah and Todd openly shared their determination to challenge past judgments they believe were unwarranted, along with addressing the perceived inequalities within the Department of Justice and the Federal Penitentiary system.

Todd expressed his gratitude firstly to his Lord and Savior, as it was through Him he persevered. He also acknowledged President Trump, the administration, Alice Johnson (Marie), and everyone who prayed for him, stood firm, and worked towards uncovering the truth. In summary, he is thankful for all of them.

It seems that during the public event, Julie was conspicuously absent. Instead, she chose to focus on spending quality time with their adopted daughter, Chloe Chrisley.

Todd mentioned, “Julie – a wonderful, kind-hearted, God-fearing woman whom I’ve been married to and been with for over 30 years, an exceptional mother – is currently at home taking care of Chloe. Chloe is quite attached to her, and we feel fortunate to have our family reunited again.

Approximately a week following their release, Savannah offered some details about what her parents’ initial days back home were like.

Savannah expressed on the June 3rd episode of her podcast ‘Unlocked’, which she recorded two days after her parents’ release, that the previous day was incredibly enjoyable. She prepared dinner for her whole family, serving steaks, pasta, salads, and potatoes, creating a veritable feast. Her family seemed to appreciate it greatly, with her parents expressing their enjoyment and admiration for the meal.

In August 2019, a federal grand jury in Atlanta charged Todd Chrisley and his wife Julie with 12 counts, including wire fraud, bank fraud conspiracy, and defrauding the United States. As reported by NBC News, these charges stemmed from various alleged actions, such as evading approximately $2 million in state taxes between 2008 and 2016 and concealing over $1 million from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The fraudulent activities, prosecutors allege, began in the mid-2000s.

A day prior to the issuance of the indictment, Todd asserted that he and his spouse were free of any wrongdoing. Instead, he alleged that a reliable employee was secretly embezzling funds and extorting them.

In his Instagram post, he stated, “There’s no secret or cause for embarrassment here. We’re confident in our actions and have solid proof – an abundance of evidence and numerous supporting witnesses to back us up.

Three years ago, I found myself standing before a courtroom, facing charges that I never imagined would come my way as part of the Chrisley Knows Best family. After three intense weeks of testimonies, during which we maintained our innocence, a jury delivered their verdict on June 7, 2022. On that day, we were convicted on all counts related to tax evasion and bank fraud.

The U.S. attorney’s office accused the pair, along with their accountant Peter Tarantino (who was tried alongside them), of plotting to deceive banks out of approximately $30 million over the span of ten years.

Keri Farley, Special Agent in Charge at FBI Atlanta, stated in June 2022 that the results today underscore a crucial truth: fame, wealth, or status don’t shield you from justice when you resort to deceit, fraud, and theft. In the end, as these three defendants learned, acts motivated by greed often lead to a verdict of guilt, demonstrating yet again that financial crimes do not offer a path to success.

After a span of five months, the Northern District of Georgia handed down sentences: Todd received a term of 12 years in prison, while Julie was given seven years. (Meanwhile, Peter received a sentence of three years in prison.)

For about ten years, the accused individuals swindled banks out of tens of millions of dollars by avoiding paying their federal income taxes. In a statement made in November 2022, U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan emphasized that their substantial prison terms demonstrate the extent of their illegal scheme and should act as a deterrent to those considering abusing our country’s community banking system for unjust enrichment.

In September 2023, the sentences of both Julie and Todd were shortened. This means that Julie is now set to be freed a year and three months ahead of schedule in 2024, while Todd will be released two years earlier than his previously planned 2035 release date.

Jay Surgent, the attorneys for Todd and Julie, stated to Insider in September 2023 that, beyond any doubt, they are outstanding inmates who have been given unusually long sentences. Currently, he said, Todd has only ten years left to serve, while Julie’s sentence is now five years.

Beginning in January 2023, the pair commenced their individual incarcerations. Todd was assigned to Federal Correctional Institution (FPI) Pensacola in Florida, while Julie was placed in a separate federal penitentiary in Lexington, Kentucky.

She also pushed back at rumors about their time in prison.

She found it amusing on her ‘Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley’ podcast when one person commented, ‘He’s let himself go.’ She then explained that hair dye isn’t available in prison, so his gray hair is understandable. In fact, if she saw him today, she would encourage him to keep the gray look as it suits him well and he has a good prison barber.

Nevertheless, Todd voiced his concerns about the unfair treatment he experienced at the federal prison camp in Pensacola, Florida, while being confined.

In a phone conversation during the December 2023 edition of Cuomo, he stated that the food was not fresh. Specifically, it had surpassed its expiration date by a full year.

He went on to say, “There are rats and squirrels infesting the storage area where the food is kept. They concealed it with plastic sheets, but due to the extensive black mold growth, they had to rip open the ceiling. Unfortunately, a dead cat was discovered up there, which then fell onto the food.

Apart from the atrocities happening in the cafeteria, he claimed that someone additionally tried to blackmail his relatives.

He mentioned that someone had taken a picture of him while he was asleep and sent it to his daughter. He then requested $2,600 per month for his security services.

Savannah, currently responsible for her younger brothers Grayson and Chloe due to her parents’ incarceration, shared how the consequences of their criminal records and distance between them had been a heavy burden on her.

She disclosed to TopMob News in March 2024 that the last conversation they had was on the day they were both sent to federal prison. She claimed that there seems to be a significant amount of retribution happening against her father due to our family’s vocal advocacy about the prison conditions.

In truth, she claimed that the prison authorities were hindering a considerable amount of his email communication with her mother.

Yet she didn’t wish for the experience to revolve around her personally, she conceded that it could be overpowering on occasion.

Savannah expressed on her podcast ‘Unlocked’ in April 2024 that she struggles with the sensation that Mom and Dad are being left behind by life, similar to how she feels about certain individuals in her own life who seem to carry on with their lives without much regard for those they have left behind.

She went on to say, “I’m finding it hard to breathe here, juggling so many responsibilities – managing finances for the children, raising them, and maintaining my own relationship.

In June 2024, Julie’s seven-year prison term was reversed by a three-judge panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. While they upheld her convictions, this court found that the judge during the 2022 trial had incorrectly determined Julie’s sentence length.

In their decision, the judges noted that the district court did not specify the evidence it used to convict Julie for losses prior to 2007. Since we cannot locate this evidence in the records either, they have decided to overturn Julie’s sentence and send the case back to the district court. The district court will now need to make the necessary factual findings about the loss, restitution, and forfeiture, as well as resendence Julie accordingly.

In the lower court, they will decide on any adjustments to her sentence, whereas Todd’s sentence remains unchanged.

After having her prison sentence overturned three months ago, an Atlanta court later reaffirmed Julie’s original seven-year prison term. In a heartfelt show of remorse, she apologized, not only to the court but also to her kids.

Julie expressed her sentiments in court, stating, “Over a substantial amount of time, I’ve reflected on what I wish to express, and I want to apologize for the actions and circumstances that have brought us here.” She further clarified, “Although I’ve spent 20 months in prison, my regrets stem from much earlier, leading up to this trial, and I deeply apologize for those actions as well.

She’s made every possible effort to reconnect with her family. She’s learned new abilities like driving a forklift and serving food correctly, she explained. This part of her life has been the toughest. She’ll never be able to fully compensate her children for their hardships, and for that, she expresses her deep regret.

The Chrisleys are returning home, as they were granted a presidential pardon by Donald Trump, a fact he shared with Savannah during a phone conversation on May 27, 2025.

Over the past two and a half years, Savannah has tirelessly worked to advocate for her parents’ release and their safe return home, as she expressed in a statement to TopMob News. This moment, which represents the answer to many heartfelt prayers, fills her with immense gratitude towards President Trump, who recognized the truth and made it possible for her family to be reunited again.
