Scar-Lead Salvation: The Anime Shooter You Didn’t Know You Needed!

Update [Thu 30th Jan 2025, 5:15am]: True to their word, Compile Heart has made the announcement that Scar-Lead Salvation is now officially out for PS5 and PS4. This game appears to be heavily inspired by Returnal, featuring a third-person shooter perspective and an anime-style aesthetic.

The summary goes: ‘Break free from the cycle of continual demise,’ as shared by Gematsu. ‘Boasting a tough challenge even for seasoned gamers, death doesn’t signal game over.’

As you journey on, you’ll encounter a series of unpredictable underground lairs. In these, you’ll gather and enhance your weaponry, advancing step by step. Keep in mind that every time you perish, your progress resets, so it’s crucial to tread carefully and strategize wisely.

From the trailer, it’s evident that this game combines classic third-person shooter action with frenetic bullet-dodging mayhem, a style often referred to as “bullet hell.” The project is spearheaded by Hiroshi Aoki, who previously designed Psychic Force.

Although a Western release hasn’t been confirmed as of now, given that Idea Factory International is handling the PC version, it’s not entirely off the table.

Either way, the title’s due out in Japan on 29th May.

Original Story:

Raise your hands if you ever played Psychic Force on the PlayStation 1? Though the game by Taito wasn’t fantastic, it boasted a captivating 90s anime style that likely found its way into your gaming collection regardless.

The seasoned designer, Hiroshi Aoki, known for his contributions to games such as Dariusburst and Rune Factory, has returned with a fresh third-person shooting game, now under the publication of Compile Heart.

On January 30th, we’re set to unveil everything about the game, and as soon as that happens, we’ll share the details here. For now, we can confirm that the game is named “Scar-Lead Salvation” and will be available on both PS5 and PS4 systems.

As a gamer, I can’t help but feel a sense of déjà vu when I hear about this upcoming game. From what I gather, it seems to share some similarities with Returnal. Word on the street is that the dungeons are procedurally generated, meaning they’ll be different each time you play. And let me tell you, if you die in this game, it’s not just a setback – you lose your weapons and any progress you’ve made. But here’s an intriguing twist: there’s a mysterious number that appears on your character’s face with every run. We’re guessing this number could play a significant role in the game’s storyline.

If it boasts the same swift and seamless gameplay as Housemarque’s popular title, it might be a game to watch. Expected to launch in Japan on 29th May, we suspect it will garner attention globally and be distributed worldwide.
