Update #2 [Sun 2nd Feb 2025, 1:45pm]: Contrary to initial plans, Scar-Lead Salvation will not be available on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in the Western region on the 29th of May. Instead, only a PC version has been confirmed for release in the West by publisher Idea Factory International.
At present, we don’t have any details to disclose about the PlayStation editions of the game. We will reach out to them for further updates.
This game is unique because it’s being designed for both PS5 and PS4 consoles, with voiceovers available in English and Japanese, along with subtitles in English, French, Spanish, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese on PC.
It seems we speculate that the certification process for this game on PS5 and PS4 might take more time compared to PC, which could be the reason why a release date hasn’t been disclosed as of now. However, it is important to note that at present, this game will not have an international launch on PlayStation consoles.
Update #1 [Thu 30th Jan 2025, 5:15am]:
True to their word, Compile Heart has officially unveiled Scar-Lead Salvation, which is set to release on both PS5 and PS4. This game appears to be reminiscent of Returnal, offering a third-person shooting experience, but with a distinctive anime-inspired visual style.
The synopsis mentions ‘Breaking free from the cycle of constant demise,’ as per Gematsu’s report. This game promises a tough challenge even for seasoned gamers, assuring you that death isn’t the final stop.
As you journey, you’ll navigate through various dungeons that are generated at random. On this adventure, you’ll gather weapons, upgrade them as you go. However, keep in mind that every time you die, you’ll have to start over from the beginning. So, be strategic and thoughtful with your moves.
From what I’ve gathered from the sneak peek, it seems like a blend of classic third-person shootouts and intense bullet-dodging action is in store for us. This project is spearheaded by none other than Hiroshi Aoki, who’s renowned for his work on Psychic Force!
Although there’s no official Western release confirmation as of now, remember that Idea Factory International is handling the PC release, which means we might not have heard the last about its availability in the West.
Either way, the title’s due out in Japan on 29th May.
Raise your hand if you’ve ever played Psychic Force on the PlayStation 1? Despite Taito’s game being somewhat disappointing, it had a captivating 90s anime style that likely convinced many to add it to their collection regardless.
Longtime game designer Hiroshi Aoki, known for his work on titles such as Dariusburst and Rune Factory, has returned to create a fresh third-person shooting game. This latest project is being distributed by Compile Heart.
On January 30th, we’re set to unveil all details about the game, and as soon as that happens, we’ll share the updates here. For now, we can confirm that the game is called “Scar-Lead Salvation” and will be available on both PS5 and PS4 systems.
Indeed, it seems strikingly similar to the game Returnal. As per a report from Gematsu, the dungeons are designed to be randomly generated. What’s more, when your character dies, they lose their weapons and progress. Interestingly, there appears to be a mysterious number displayed on your character’s face that grows with each run. We suspect this number might play a role in the game’s narrative.
If it delivers the same swift and seamless gameplay as Housemarque’s popular title, it might be a game to watch. Expected to release in Japan on May 29th, we anticipate that it will gain global attention and distribution.
