Scarlett Johansson & Colin Jost Get Sweet Revenge on Michael Che in Hilarious SNL Moment!

Scarlett Johansson is the ultimate SNL avenger.

After several months had passed since Colin Jost shared a rather explicit joke about her, written by his long-time colleague Michael Che during their “Weekend Update” Christmas joke exchange in 2024, the couple decided to return the favor on the season 50 finale. However, let me express my sincere regrets for any discomfort or offense caused.

Before I share another joke, let me take a moment to apologize to someone I wronged. Could Scarlett please step forward? This is what Che said during the cowriters’ new ‘Weekend Update’ joke swap on May 17, causing the actress – who was hosting the episode – to join him on his left at the anchor desk.

Later on, with a touch of humor, he mentioned, “I wasn’t fond of that,” referring to the incident that occurred in December and gained widespread attention, particularly because the Avengers actress was seen expressing surprise as she watched it unfold from a different part of the room.

In a previous instance when we traded jokes, I had Colin share some inappropriate humor that linked your person to Costco roast beef, Che admitted. However, he clarified that his actions were born out of envy, as he has never had the opportunity to witness a human vagina in real life.

Later on, Colin received an apology from his co-star. He expressed, “Colin, I’m sorry as well because you played a significant role in my life,” he admitted. “When you discovered me, I was hawking drugs near the Bronx Zoo. Now, I’m peddling goods outside the American Girl doll store.

Then, Che became quite emotional. “For years, I’ve cracked countless jokes on Update, garnering many chuckles, but there’s one thing I’ve never said – the three words that matter most: I love you.

Colin responded, “That’s really sweet, buddy. I love you, too.”

Scarlett had recently vowed to pay Che back for his “roast beef” joke about her and Colin.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, published May 14, just before the SNL finale, she remarked, “You guys are surprisingly seventh and eighth-grade boys!” She further expressed a sentiment that she felt it was almost her duty to find a way to retaliate against Michael. She suggested that such retaliation was not only possible but should be anticipated. Other members of the show might share this sentiment, she implied.

On multiple occasions, Scarlett and Jost, a married couple since 2020 with a 3-year-old son named Cosmo and an older daughter Rose, have found themselves the subject of humor during the Weekend Update segment. Below, you’ll find more amusing remarks about the actress and her spouse on this particular SNL segment.

Over the years, the duo have frequently been the subject of humor on Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update segment, due in large part to Jost’s writing partner Michael Che. Continue reading to discover some of the most contentious jokes they’ve made throughout their tenure.

On the December 21, 2024 edition of Weekend Update, the program made an unexpectedly explicit and adult-oriented shift (you can view the segment here).

On Weekend Update, Jost remarked that Costco has taken the roast beef sandwich off its menu, but he’s not too upset because he’s been having roast beef for dinner every evening ever since his child was born.

Johansson, who has son Cosmo, 3, with Jost and is also a mother to daughter Rose, 10, from her past marriage to Dauriac, was later seen backstage, expressing amazement as she watched her husband on a TV screen, exclaiming “Oh my God!” in awe.

Jost continued, “No, no, I’m just playin’, baby. You know I don’t go downtown.”

In May 2025, Colin and Scarlett eventually settled their debt with Che for the Christmas 2024 joke swap incident that took place during the season 50 finale of Saturday Night Live (you can watch the Weekend Update segment here).

Colin recently read a witty remark from Che during the final Weekend Update of the year, which humorously pointed out that he could now enjoy Johansson’s indie films and included a surprising Black Widow reference as its punchline. (You can watch it here.)

Back in March 2024, I crafted a humorous quip specifically for Jost during our final episode of the season’s Weekend Update. The joke was inspired by Johansson’s striking beauty, as you can see for yourself in this video. (Check it out here.)

In one of his humorous pieces, Che cleverly inserted a Johansson reference for Jost, mentioning that the lead singer of Creed was portraying Frank Sinatra in a film, marking the end of the first year of COVID. (You can watch the clip here.)

Although 2020 presented numerous difficulties, this year holds a unique significance for the couple as it was when they tied the knot, having been together for three years. Take a look back at some of the sweetest moments shared by Jost and Johansson.
