Scopper Gaban Revealed as Potential Future Sight User in One Piece

In the world of One Piece, though the introduction of Gear Five’s reality-altering powers and the almost indestructible abilities of the Five Elders are prominent, Haki continues to play a crucial role in the power dynamics. This is particularly true for exceptionally rare forms of Haki like Conqueror’s Haki. However, there exists a form of Haki that might be even more elusive than Conqueror’s Haki – Future Sight. So far, only four characters – Luffy, Kaido, Shanks, and Katakuri – have been seen to possess this advanced form of Observation Haki, which is known as Future Sight. Yet, the Elbaf Arc might be hinting at another individual who can use Future Sight.

In Chapter 1140 of “One Piece,” the continuation of Luffy’s fight against Scopper Gaban ensues for the key to Loki’s chains, with Zoro joining the fray as Luffy unleashes Gear Five. On the brink of their attack, Gaban surrenders. Yet, a telling gleam in his eyes suggests that he may have used Future Sight during this instance, predicting Luffy and Zoro’s upcoming move before choosing to capitulate.

Scopper Gaban Could Be A Future Sight User

At the start of the Elbaf Arc, it was Gaban who was hidden on the shore and later unveiled as the enigmatic figure. He had the ability to detect the Straw Hats and the colossal pirates coming towards the island from quite a distance away. This capability strongly suggests that Gaban has exceptional Observation Haki, raising the possibility that he may also possess Future Sight. Given his extensive combat background, it wouldn’t be surprising if this were true.

In Chapter 1140 of One Piece, the significant focus on a gleam in Gaban’s eyes could be interpreted as another clue, given that Luffy is frequently portrayed with a comparable shimmer around his face when employing Future Sight in the manga. Previously, the manga has utilized similar sound effects to denote this ability. The Japanese onomatopoeia used for Future Sight in Chapter 1140 is “ギラン” or “giran,” which can be translated as ‘glint’ but also carries meanings such as twinkle, glare, or shine, similar to the term ‘kira’ or ‘sparkle’ in Japanese.

In various translations, the onomatopoeia “キーン” or “keen” in Japanese, which represents a high-pitched sound, has been used for Luffy and Shanks’ Future Sight ability. While Viz has changed this to “hrrng” or “keen” at times, the underlying Japanese characters have remained consistent. Notably, using Future Sight in Chapter 1140 by Gaban makes sense as it helps explain why he suddenly stopped attacking Luffy without showing any signs of exhaustion.

Fans anticipate that Usopp could shine on Elbaf, fulfilling his dream of becoming a valiant warrior, and learning Observation Haki from Gaban would offer him an excellent chance to enhance his sniping skills. While it might be pushing it for Usopp to master Future Sight as well, learning from someone with this ability would still greatly aid him. Whether Usopp gets that chance remains uncertain. With the impending battle on Elbaf, it won’t take long before we see Scopper Gaban in action again, which could be when One Piece confirms whether Gaba is indeed the fifth Future Sight user in the series.
