I mean, who doesn’t want more of Ramona Flowers and her seven evil exes? But alas, it seems like we’re stuck with just one season of animated goodness from the minds at Science SARU.
2023 saw the release of “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off,” an animated series on Netflix and Science SARU, which quickly became a hit among fans due to its vibrant Canadian characters based on Bryan Lee O’Malley’s comics. Despite the first season wrapping up fairly independently, some viewers were left wondering if this was the concluding chapter for the animated adaptation of these colorful characters. In a recent update from Scott Pilgrim’s creator, it was confirmed that the Science SARU anime would not be coming back for a second season. As a dedicated fan, I’ve had the privilege of following BenDavid Grabinski’s journey in helping Scott Pilgrim’s creator bring Takes Off to life. Lately, he’s been opening up about the series’ “cancellation.” Despite my hope for a second season, BenDavid admitted that it might not have been in the cards. However, he left us with a tantalizing hint: he may not be done exploring this fascinating universe just yet. While no official news has been released about Scott Pilgrim’s return, it seems like BenDavid could be holding onto some exciting secrets!
To set the record straight, I never planned to create a second season for “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off,” nor did I have any ideas for one. However, I’m not finished with the world of Scott Pilgrim yet, and I believe that misconceptions about it being “cancelled” may have arisen due to this.
Scott Pilgrim’s Cancellation
Should you not have caught the initial news, Bryan Lee O’Malley, the creator, shared his thoughts when he verified that the anime adaptation wouldn’t be back for another season: “A year has passed since Scott Pilgrim Takes Off was released. It was a privilege to collaborate with everyone worldwide on this project. Each day felt like conducting a symphony orchestra. From the moment Brad Graubart ignited the idea, the venture seemed like an extraordinary miracle. Unfortunately, we have been informed that it won’t be coming back. As you might remember, we always planned for only one season, and we relied on many favors to bring it to life, so creating more would have been quite challenging.
