The work on the seventh edition of the Scream series is progressing well, with fresh reports from the Atlanta set indicating that another well-known actor, Joel McHale, known for his roles in “Community” and “Animal Control”, has signed up for a part in “Scream 7”. While fans are thrilled about McHale’s involvement, they might be let down by the role he’ll be playing in “Scream 7”.
As reported by Deadline, McHale is set to portray a character named Mark Evans, who is married to Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell. This implies that Patrick Dempsey may not be part of the narrative for Scream 7, contrary to some earlier assumptions.
In the movie Scream 3, Dempsey portrayed Detective Mark Kincaid, and the film concluded with Sidney and Mark becoming a couple. Interestingly, in the latest Scream (2022), Detective Kincaid is nowhere to be seen, but Sidney calls her spouse as ‘Mark’. This has led fans to speculate that perhaps Sidney and Detective Kincaid tied the knot.
In a different twist, McHale’s character shares the name Mark, but it’s not a case of replacing an actor. Instead, Sidney appears to have married a man named Mark who isn’t Mark Kincaid, maintaining consistency with her family-related comments in the fifth Scream movie.
What makes things even more disappointing for fans is learning that, although it wasn’t shown on-screen, the characters Sidney and Mark Kincaid were indeed intended to get married in the Scream series. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin revealed that the Mark whom Sidney wed was none other than the character portrayed by Patrick Dempsey.
Confirmed by Bettenelli-Olpin in 2022, it’s clear that Mark Kincaid is indeed Sid’s spouse. As Gillett put it, “Absolutely! That’s correct according to official records!
It’s yet unknown who Sidney’s husband will turn out to be in Scream 7. Given the circumstances, it appears likely that Mark Evans is indeed the man she has been married to all along. The choice of his first name, Evans, seems significant in light of the phone call between Sidney and her spouse, which occurred two movies back.
It’s also possible that Sidney indeed married Mark Kincaid, had children with him, and then divorced. This could have led to Sidney marrying another man named Mark later on.
In the upcoming movie ‘Scream 7’, Sidney’s family will take center stage as the story unfolds, with Prescott once again in focus following Campbell’s absence in ‘Scream 6’. Notably, Isabel May, a rising talent from the ‘Yellowstone’ prequel series ‘1883’, has been chosen to portray Sidney’s daughter.
In the lineup for Scream 7, you’ll find fresh faces like Mckenna Grace, Anna Camp, and Celeste O’Connor joining the series. Courteney Cox is set to reappear as Gale Weathers, a character who has been present in every Scream film, and Mason Gooding will be back, continuing his role as Chad Meeks-Martin.
