The family of “Scream 7” expands as some familiar faces return, reigniting the legacy that Wes Craven established nearly three decades ago. It has been announced that Marco Beltrami, who composed the music for the initial four “Scream” movies, will be contributing to “Scream 7.” Known for his work on films such as “A Quiet Place” and “Logan,” Beltrami shared this news on social media, making “Scream 7” all the more intriguing.
Initially, I hadn’t heard that Beltrami would be the official composer for Scream 7. However, a few weeks ago, a passionate fan urged him to take on this project by commenting on an Instagram post from 2023. “Please compose Scream 7!” read the comment, to which Beltrami responded with a promise, “Don’t fret, I will.” This announcement signifies Beltrami’s reentry into the horror series, as he had previously composed the scores for the initial Scream films directed by Wes Craven. In the 2022 Scream, Beltrami was substituted by Brian Tyler, and for Scream VI, Tyler collaborated with Sven Faulconer.
In the realm of music associated with the Scream series, it’s likely that “Red Right Hand” by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds comes to mind first (with the exception of Scream 4). However, it’s important not to overlook Marco Beltrami’s outstanding score, which is integral to the Scream universe and holds equal significance as Ghostface’s iconic mask. The majority of his work for the franchise involves string music, and the piece famously known as “Sidney’s Lament” can be considered the series’ defining musical theme.
It’s interesting to note that the official soundtrack for the initial Scream movie, composed by Marco Beltrami, wasn’t made available until 1998. This release also included Beltrami’s music from Scream 2. Prior to this, only one instrumental piece, “Sidney’s Lament,” was included in the soundtrack for the 1996 film. However, the double-disc edition from 1998 contained just 12 minutes of Beltrami’s score. It wasn’t until 2011 that fans could hear Beltrami’s complete score, as a deluxe edition was released then.
The musician often collaborates with directors such as Guillermo del Toro, Jonathan Levine, Alex Proyas, James Mangold, among others. Notably, he partnered with original Scream creator Craven on seven projects. He has garnered two Academy Award nominations for his work on 3:10 to Yuma and The Hurt Locker, and is recognized for creating music in genres like action, thriller, and horror.
‘Scream 7’: Everything We Know About Ghostface’s Return
As a die-hard Scream fan, I can hardly contain my excitement as Marco Beltrami joins the original cast members for what feels like a dream reunion! Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, and Scott Foley will once again bring to life our beloved characters Sidney, Gale, Dewey, Stu, and Roman. The iconic voices of Ghostface, provided by Roger Jackson, will also echo through the halls. Not only that, but we’ll see familiar faces from the new generation like Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding. And to sweeten the deal, we’ve got a fresh batch of talent joining us, including Isabel May, Joel McHale, Mckenna Grace, Michelle Randolph, Anna Camp, and Ethan Embry – just to name a few! This is definitely shaping up to be one unforgettable Scream movie!
Guy Busick contributes to the screenplay, which he and James Vanderbilt, a collaborator and writer from the 2022 movies “Scream” and “Scream VI”, have devised together. This upcoming film is scheduled for release on February 27, 2026, with Paramount Pictures managing distribution duties once more.
