Caution: Potential plot reveals! The lineup of actors for the upcoming film “Scream 7” has expanded significantly, featuring numerous veterans from past installments, leading to a growing curiosity about the movie’s timeline and content. Last week, it was confirmed that Matthew Lillard would rejoin the cast, joining Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and Scott Foley who are returning for this sequel. If Lillard is indeed playing Stu Macher again and Foley is reprising his character Roman Bridger, the plot will need to address how they managed to survive, as their deaths were shown in previous films. Some speculate that the movie could be set in the past, possibly unveiling a fourth accomplice who has been working with Stu, Roman, and Billy for over three decades.
In 1996, Damian Lillard portrayed one of the main antagonists in the original Scream film. The movie kept audiences guessing for more than an hour before unveiling that Stu and his pal Billy Loomis (played by Skeet Ulrich) were responsible for all the slayings. Initially, they committed these murders to avenge Billy’s father’s affair with Sidney Prescott’s mother, while the subsequent killings aimed to hide their actions. However, in a twist, it was Sidney who ultimately took both Stu and Billy Loomis out.
In “Scream 3,” I found myself utterly captivated as the narrative took an intriguing twist. It was unveiled that Sidney had a half-brother named Roman, who, like her, harbored intense resentment towards their mother, Maureen. This brother of mine, Roman, played a pivotal role in setting Billy and Stu on the path of their lethal rampage. In this film, he reappeared, determined to complete his gruesome mission. The movie concludes with Sidney delivering a decisive blow to Roman, effectively closing any potential doors for his return in future installments.
I’m speculating that Lillard and Foley might appear in Scream 7 primarily through flashbacks, hallucinations, or dreams. Given their addition to the main cast, fans are anticipating a more significant role for them. Recently, a Reddit user named u/gonnablamethemovies suggested an intriguing theory: perhaps this movie will delve deep into the past, focusing on when Roman, Stu, and Billy were plotting their murders. It could potentially uncover another conspirator who might emerge as the primary antagonist in Scream 7.
One potential concern among fans revolves around the movies’ use of computer-generated imagery (CGI) to make Damian Lillard and Bill Foley appear younger, since they played teenagers in the original films. If these actors have extensive screen time, as suggested by their prominent roles, it could feel unsettling for viewers. However, finding solutions for this predicament might involve venturing into more speculative territory.
Currently, they are filming Scream 7, which is scheduled to hit theaters on February 27th, 2026. At present moment, you have the opportunity to watch the initial three Scream movies on Max.
