Scream: The TV Series Star Willa Fitzgerald on a Possible Franchise Return (Exclusive)

As a seasoned gamer and horror enthusiast who has spent countless nights huddled under the covers while watching Scream marathons, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when I hear about Willa Fitzgerald potentially reprising her role as Emma Duval in the Scream franchise. The TV series was a refreshing take on the Ghostface narrative and it holds a special place in my heart for introducing me to some truly terrifying characters.

Following the premiere of Wes Craven’s “Scream 4”, the storyline shifted to television with “Scream: The TV Series“. This show, both a reboot and reinvention of the Ghostface saga, has been off the air for eight years, but some enthusiasts remain optimistic that the main cast members could potentially return to the big screen in future “Scream” movies. Although Willa Fitzgerald, who played Emma Duval, hasn’t heard of any plans to resurrect these characters, she hasn’t closed the door on the possibility. Upcoming, Fitzgerald will appear in “Strange Darling”, set to be released in theaters on August 23rd.

In a chat with ComicBook, Fitzgerald reflected, “Many people seem to adore the series, and it played a significant role in my professional journey. I hold dear memories of it. As for returning to the franchise, I mentioned, ‘It’s not something I know is imminent, but you never know.'”

Unlike the “Scream” movies where different characters have donned the Ghostface mask to target Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott and her close associates, “Scream: The TV Series” offered a fresh narrative. This show featured a new masked killer chasing teens in a small town, while also paying tribute to horror movies with self-referential elements and witty dialogue. Interestingly, Wes Craven, the creator of the original series, was involved as a producer during the first season. The third season of the series introduced a fresh storyline that included the iconic Ghostface mask once more.

In the year 2021, my co-star, Carlson Young, shared a wish that echoed through the gaming world – a hope to rejoin the franchise somehow, just for the chance to secure an epic demise worthy of our game’s lore.

In simpler terms, Young stated to ComicBook that there had been no discussions about reprising anything similar. However, he expressed enthusiasm about observing the progress of the movies, as the series and films were distinct entities. He also mentioned his continued readiness for a role that could lead to his character’s on-screen demise, but for now, he’s content with being a spectator.

She joked, “I just want to get slashed by Ghostface, is that too much to ask?”

In the movie titled “Strange Darling“, appearances can be deceiving as a seemingly innocent one-night stand turns into a chilling sequence of murders by a sinister character. This film is helmed by JT Mollner, who previously worked on “Outlaws & Angels“. The star-studded cast includes Willa Fitzgerald from “The Goldfinch” and “Reacher“, Kyle Gallner of “Smile” and “Dinner in America“, Ed Begley Jr. from “Better Call Saul” and “A Mighty Wind“, as well as Barbara Hershey, known for her roles in “Black Swan” and “Insidious“.

Stay tuned for updates on the Scream franchise. Strange Darling lands in theaters on August 23rd.
