SDCC 2024: Daniel Diemer Cast as Tyson For Percy Jackson Season 2

As a devoted fan of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series since my childhood, I couldn’t contain my excitement when Disney+ announced the second season! The recent San Diego Comic-Con panel was a dream come true for me, as we got to hear some fantastic news about the upcoming installment.

The second installment of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is approaching on Disney+ after an impressive debut, and at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego, fans got a chance to interact with the show’s cast during the Hall H panel. Not only did they get to ask questions, but they also received significant updates about the upcoming second season. During the SDCC event, author Rick Riordan appeared via video message to announce that Daniel Diemer will join the cast as Percy Jackson’s half-brother Tyson for season 2.

During the presentation, a video was played featuring Diemer personally touring the Percy Jackson set and expressing his long-standing admiration for Riordan’s book series, having been a fan since he was ten. In response, the show’s stars, Walker Scobell (Percy Jackson), Aryan Simhadri (Grover Underwood), and Leah Jeffries (Annabeth Chase), expressed their appreciation for Diemer and shared that they had looked forward to discussing his casting as Tyson for a long time. They couldn’t help but poke fun at the noticeable height difference between Diemer and Scobell.

“I’m overjoyed and privileged to join the extraordinary world of ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians,'” Diemer expressed in his video message. “Growing up, I’ve been an avid fan of these books since I was ten years old. This opportunity is a dream come true for me to work with such a talented team and crew, not to mention the dedicated fans. I’m eagerly looking forward to breathing life into Tyson and sharing his story together.”

In the “Percy Jackson” series, Tyson is referred to as Cyclops and is the son of Poseidon and a nymph. As a result, he is the half-brother of Percy Jackson. Their first encounter occurs in the second book, titled “The Sea of Monsters.” At this point, they are classmates at Meriwether College Prep in the human world. While Percy was admitted through his mother’s efforts, Tyson arrived after being discovered living in a refrigerator box on New York City streets. Percy knows little about Tyson’s past until their gym class is attacked by Laistrygonian Giants, with Tyson shielding Percy from flaming dodgeballs. This event reveals new information about Tyson’s background.

“Daniel Diemer’s excitement and skill will add a fresh perspective to Tyson in the upcoming second season, according to Riordan. We’re all eagerly anticipating introducing him to you and welcoming him into the Percy Jackson series.”

Recently, Diemer featured in Hulu’s “Under the Bridge.” In the near future, you can watch him act in the movie “Thug,” alongside Liam Neeson and Ron Perlman. Additionally, Diemer has a role in Netflix’s “The Midnight Club.”
