“As a die-hard Marvel fan and someone who has been following Simu Liu and Awkwafina’s careers since their breakout roles in Shang-Chi and Crazy Rich Asians respectively, I can’t help but feel like fate has brought them together once again for the upcoming film, Jackpot!. It seems that director Paul Feig was just as excited to reunite these two talented individuals on screen, as he confessed to being a fan of Shang-Chi himself.
The exciting news is that Simu Liu and Awkwafina will reunite following their roles in “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” as revealed in the new project titled “Jackpot!“. Director Paul Feig recently shared the story behind this unexpected crossover. It seems that Awkwafina was already connected to the project before Simu Liu joined the Marvel franchise. With this opportunity at hand, Feig couldn’t resist the chance to bring these two talented actors back together. As a fan of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” he saw the potential for a reunion as a bit of fortunate coincidence. Marvel enthusiasts have long been anticipating a sequel, and perhaps “Jackpot!” will tide fans over until then. Check out the details of this exciting collaboration above.
“Absolutely, I adore that film. It’s fantastic, and the humor is spot-on, yet it wasn’t scripted at all. Nora was already connected to the script when I received it. We’ve been trying to collaborate on something for a while, but we were unsure about who would play the villain. Then, Simu’s team contacted us, expressing his interest in the role. I was taken aback and didn’t fully grasp the implications until he was cast. It then struck me, ‘Oh my goodness! They were in a movie together before!'”
Where Is Shang-Chi?
With “Avengers: Doomsday” scheduled and a potential follow-up to “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” in production, fans eagerly await Simu Liu’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Prior to hosting the People’s Choice Awards this year, Shang-Chi actor Simu Liu discussed MCU updates with ComicBook on the red carpet for “Arthur the King.” When asked about his involvement in both projects, Liu hinted at plans being developed. He didn’t disclose specific details back then (it’s uncertain if he knew Downey’s role in the sequel or not). So, things are in motion and more information is on its way.
A few months back, Liu admitted he was unsure about the details, as they were beyond his level of involvement. He simply enjoys being a fan and leaves the creative work to others. When he receives a call saying something like, “Here’s where you’ll join in and here’s when you’ll need to be unavailable,” that’s generally how things go. However, Destin is an exceptional director, and we’re thrilled to have him on the sequel. He’ll handle the creative aspects, and we can’t wait to see his masterpiece. I believe he’ll do a fantastic job.
