SDCC 2024: New Justice League Series Announced From Mark Waid and Dan Mora

As a long-time comic book gamer and collector, I can’t help but be excited about DC’s latest announcements at Comic-Con! The reveal of Justice League Unlimited, with Mark Waid and Dan Mora at the helm, is truly a dream team come true. I’ve been a fan of their work on World’s Finest, and I have high expectations for this new series.

DC didn’t save all their major announcements for San Diego Comic-Con; instead, they unveiled their plans for DC All In and DC Absolute prior to the event. However, there were still exciting reveals during the Absolute Power panel at SDCC. For instance, Mark Waid and Dan Mora, the successful team behind World’s Finest, are collaborating on a new Justice League series titled “Justice League Unlimited.” This new series will debut in November. During the panel, we also received our first glimpse of the team, which you can view below.

Big Time Lineup

At the panel, DC unveiled an initial peek at Justice League Unlimited, showcasing Mora’s captivating illustrations and a glimpse of the early team lineup. However, during the question-and-answer session, Waid clarified that while most heroes are up for grabs, Jonah Hex was not included in this version of the team – leaving the rest open to interpretation, similar to the Justice League Unlimited animated series bearing the same name.

Regarding the initial lineup, it is impressively filled with well-known figures like Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, The Flash, and Green Lantern (The Trinity and The Flash being regular members of the Justice League). However, it’s the new additions that pique my interest – Star Sapphire and Captain Atom. Their unique abilities add fresh perspectives to the team, and their presence introduces exciting new character interactions. Finally, Black Lightning and The Atom complete this powerful ensemble.

Two Big Returns

Waid unveiled some extra information about significant comebacks in the novel besides the team. One of these returns is a character, the ruthless monarch of Apokolips named Darkseid, who consistently poses a challenge to the League. The other return is actually a location; the League will be relocating to the Watchtower once more. While they might still visit the Hall of Justice occasionally, it appears that they prefer having a broader perspective on events depicted in Unlimited by residing at the Watchtower.

Darkseid plays a significant role in the “All In” project, serving as the primary adversary for the DC Universe’s united heroes following the conclusion of “Absolute Power.” This new initiative marks the arrival of numerous creative teams and commences post-issue 4 of “Absolute Power.”

As a longtime comic book enthusiast and collector, I’m thrilled to share that Justice League Unlimited #1 is dropping into comic stores on November 27th! Can you believe it?
