SDCC 2024: Star Wars: The Acolyte Reveals Two Prequel Novels Focusing on Fan-Favorite Characters

As a hardcore Star Wars fan with decades of immersion in this expansive galaxy far, far away, I can’t help but be thrilled by these latest literary announcements from Lucasfilm. The reveal of new novels focusing on Vernestra Rwoh and Jecki and Yord at San Diego Comic-Con has me jumping for joy!

The universe of “Star Wars: The Acolyte” is growing with the addition of new novels. At Comic-Con in San Diego on Thursday, Lucasfilm revealed plans for various new stories coming to life through novels and comics. Among these stories are a novel centered around Vernestra Rwoh and a YA novel focusing on Jecki and Yord. Both tales take place prior to the occurrences of “The Acolyte”.

Author Justina Ireland, one of the five masterminds behind “Star Wars: The High Republic” project, will release her novel “Star Wars: The Acolyte: Wayseeker” with Random House Worlds in the upcoming year. This book offers a glimpse into Vernestra Rwoh’s past, around twenty years before the events of “The Acolyte,” which was previously featured in the Phase III stories of “Star Wars: The High Republic.”

Regarding Yord and Jecki, Tess Gratton is breathing new life into these characters for an upcoming novel, currently untitled, which will be released in July 2025. The story takes place prior to the events of “The Acolyte.” Furthermore, there were several other exciting announcements, including a Marvel comic featuring Kelnacca. Will There Be a Season 2 of The Acolyte?

Currently, we haven’t received any updates regarding a second season of “The Acolyte,” a topic that series creator Leslye Headland discussed with Entertainment Weekly in her recent interview.

Headland responded with a firm “Nothing” when questioned about any new developments on “The Acolyte.” She emphasized her response by forming a large zero with both hands. “It’s essential to take a break,” she explained further. “Especially after something as demanding as this project. My brain has been working non-stop – ‘Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars, Acolyte, Acolyte, Acolyte’ – it’s all I’ve been thinking about for years. It feels strange to be in a place where I don’t have to constantly solve problems and create stories. My advice to aspiring writers is to take time off and do nothing. Only then can the story begin to unfold naturally.”

She chuckled and explained, “My mind refuses to slow down, it’s as if I’ve been in motion, I can’t simply pause or rest.”
