One more significant Xbox exclusive title is joining Battle.net; it’s been announced that Rare’s Sea of Thieves will be the next game to become available on Blizzard Entertainment’s PC platform.
Three distinct pirate adventure preorders are now live on Battle.net, each offering a unique experience. The $60 Premium Edition comes packed with themed cosmetics, allowing players to customize their ships by displaying sails emblematic of Blizzard’s franchises such as Diablo, Overwatch, Warcraft, and additional titles.
Just like other Xbox games that you can also play on Battle.net, Sea of Thieves takes advantage of Xbox Play Anywhere. This means if you already own it on Xbox consoles (or have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass), you can enjoy the standard edition of Sea of Thieves via Battle.net at no additional cost.
On May 22, 2025, Sea of Thieves is set to debut on Battle.net. Over the past few years, this game has undergone numerous upgrades, with the most recent seasons introducing larger Megalodons, new weaponry, and additional features.
Approximately a year ago, Sea of Thieves amassed 40 million players across both Xbox and PC platforms, with its PlayStation 5 release right around the corner.
Battle.net is rapidly becoming standard for Xbox games on PC
Historically, Battle.net was primarily a Windows PC launcher exclusive for Activision Blizzard games. However, things have been shifting recently as Microsoft is considering adding first-party games from Xbox Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks to this platform.
As a researcher delving into gaming trends, I found myself at the forefront of an exciting new chapter with Obsidian Entertainment’s game, Avowed. This groundbreaking title made its debut simultaneously on Battle.net, Xbox Series X|S consoles, the Xbox PC app, and Steam, marking a significant milestone in my exploration of the dynamic world of video games.
It appears that the trial has yielded positive results, as there has been an increase in Xbox game announcements for the platform following it, with DOOM: The Dark Ages from id Software and Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds 2 initially planned for release on Battle.net.
I really enjoy providing more choices for gamers and broadening the Xbox Play Anywhere platform. It makes me curious about which classic Xbox games might be included on Battle.net down the line.
