Sean Gunn’s Answer to Returning to Marvel Leaves Guardians of the Galaxy Fans Conflicted

As a long-time fan of both Marvel and DC, I must say I find myself in an unusual predicament with the recent developments involving Sean Gunn and his dual roles across these universes. On one hand, it’s exhilarating to see a beloved character actor like Gunn expand his horizons, especially when he’s working alongside his brother James at DC Studios. The idea of hearing Sean bring Weasel and G.I. Robot to life in Creature Commandos, followed by stepping into the shoes of Maxwell Lord in Superman, is nothing short of intriguing.

Following his significant contribution to Kraglin’s development as a key character in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie franchise, Sean Gunn is now expanding his skills by making a substantial impact at DC Studios. Working alongside his brother, DC Studios co-chair James Gunn, Sean is presently putting in a lot of effort to bring the new DC Universe to fruition. He’s juggling two roles, providing the voice for both Weasel and G.I. Robot in Creature Commandos, and will assume the role of Maxwell Lord in next summer’s Superman. However, whether this extensive DC lineup implies that Gunn won’t revisit Marvel and the Guardians in the future remains uncertain at this point.

Recently, ComicBook had a chat with Sean Gunn about his characters in the upcoming animated series “Creature Commandos“, which marks the start of the DCU on December 5th. When asked about how his roles in both franchises (DC and Marvel) might intertwine in the future, the actor admitted that he is unsure about what lies ahead for him in either universe.

Gunn explained to us that he doesn’t have the solution for that question and here’s why: Firstly, he’s unsure about Marvel’s future projects. However, when they reach out, he responds to their calls. Unfortunately, he’s not aware if they have any plans that involve speaking with him about potential projects.

While it’s similar for DC, I currently have three distinct characters who inhabit separate realms within this universe. As a result, my knowledge about their future prominence is limited. Consequently, I’m proceeding with caution and embracing the unpredictability of what lies ahead. That said, I’m deeply invested in the work, and if given the opportunity, I’ll take on everything that comes my way.

Gunn emphasized his readiness to reprise the role of Kraglin or any other DC character he’s portrayed multiple times. With his brother managing DC, it seems likely that many of his characters will enjoy extended runs within the franchise.

From a film enthusiast’s perspective, the question on everyone’s mind regarding Marvel is whether Kevin Feige and the studio choose to continue the Guardians of the Galaxy saga without James Gunn at the helm. The climax of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 leaves Kraglin as a pivotal character in the potential new team, with Rocket Raccoon taking charge. If the Guardians make a comeback, it’s safe to say that Kraglin will be part of the adventure once more.

Creature Commandos premieres on Max Thursday, December 5th.
