In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, players delve into a myriad of adventures spread across the expansive land of Cyrodiil. From undertaking quests, unearthing secret ruins, or venturing into mysterious caves, danger and unexpected encounters are never far off. One such unforeseen event is contracting Porphyric Hemophilia – a disease that can eventually transform you into a Vampire if left untreated.
In the game ‘The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered’, you’ll find a detailed walkthrough on how to get rid of Vampirism, whether you’ve just become one or are already well into your undead existence. This guide highlights both the advantages and disadvantages of vampirism, emphasizing the challenges that come with daytime wandering. Despite the allure of its benefits, remember that there are always solutions to reverse this condition.
How To Cure Vampirism Before Turning Into A Vampire In Oblivion Remastered
Upon running into a Vampire and sustaining some injuries, you could see a message indicating that you’ve developed Porphyric Hemophilia. Essentially, this initiates a countdown of three in-game days before you fully transform into a vampire. This gives you ample time to search for a cure during this period. The fastest method is to visit any Chapel and utilize the Altar of the Nine to completely rid yourself of the condition.
Players may opt for a “Potion of Curing Disease” if they possess it in their stockpile. Occasionally, you might stumble upon them inside containers, but you can also acquire them from Claudette Perrick within The Gilded Carafe, located in the Imperial City Market District. She sells these for 270 Gold, but try bargaining with her to lower the cost if you wish. If none of these options work and you’re still afflicted, resting after the third day will result in a lengthy message indicating that you’ve now transformed into a Vampire.
How To Cure Vampirism After Turning Into A Vampire In Oblivion Remastered
Following your transformation into a Vampire, be mindful because moving around during daylight can deplete your vitality significantly, unless you’ve fed recently. A convenient way to feed is by waiting for nightfall and preying on sleeping non-player characters (NPCs). Since many houses are secured, you might find yourself feeding from the homeless in certain urban areas. Curing your Vampirism is a laborious task that requires patience, but it’s the only choice if players wish to avoid maintaining their Vampire status throughout their gameplay experience. To initiate the cure, start by making your way to the Arcane University, located south of the Imperial City, and have a conversation with Raminus Polus.
You can locate him in the Lobby, no need for University access. Ask him about a cure for Vampirism, and he’ll direct you to visit Count Hassildor in Skingrad. Use fast travel to reach Castle Skingrad, then climb the stairs on your right to enter the County Hall.
It’s possible that you’ll have to open the door using a lockpick, but given its medium level of complexity, it shouldn’t prove too challenging for you.

Upon entering, make your way down the corridor and chat with Hal-Liurz, the steward to Count Skingrad. Inform her that you need to meet the Count and it’s regarding a cure for Vampirism. Keep in mind, if you engage Hal-Liurz before speaking to Raminus Polus, she won’t offer this option, instead scolding you by stating that the Count won’t entertain an impromptu chat without a prior appointment.
To expedite things, you can spend an hour waiting in the hall, which will initiate a conversation with Count Janus Hassildor. He’ll share his tale about becoming a Vampire along with his wife, and how she now wishes to end their undead existence. Consequently, he seeks a cure, and that’s where you come in. Upon agreeing to help him, you’ll get the “Vampire Cure” quest. To find the solution, head south of Cheydinhal. A convenient option is to teleport to Cheydinhal stables and then proceed south, whether on horseback or by foot.
Upon arriving at Drakelowe, enter the cabin where you’ll meet Melisande, who is willing to aid you, but she requests a favor first. She needs you to fetch five empty Grand Soul Gems for her.
If you start this mission at the beginning of the game, it’s highly unlikely that you possess any Grand Soul Gems. Consequently, you’ll need to traverse quite a distance, ensuring to avoid daytime travel if your transformation progression is significant.
As a passionate enthusiast, I’d recommend making my way to Mystic Emporium nestled in the Market District of the Imperial City first. There, I aim to acquire all the Grand Soul Gems Calindil has for sale. Since he may only have one or two on hand, I’ll likely need to seek additional sources. My next stop would be the Mage’s Guilds scattered across various cities. Some NPCs within these guilds might have a few Grand Soul Gems in their inventory that can be bought for around 200-300 Gold.
If I haven’t already, I could also consider joining the Mage’s Guild during this journey, as it’s free of charge and doesn’t require completion of any tasks. It’s quite possible to stumble upon hidden Grand Soul Gems within guild cabinets, even though they are securely locked. With a little lockpicking skill and a visit at night, I might just manage to acquire these gems without causing much fuss.
Gathering the Ingredients for the Vampirsim Cure in Oblivion Remastered

After I’ve collected all five Soul Gems, I should return to Melisande with them. She will then reveal the secret recipe for the antidote to Vampirism, which requires a few specific components. Here’s how you can acquire each of these ingredients:
1. Moonflower Petals: These can be found in the Moonlit Forest during the nighttime hours.
2. Bat Wings: Catch them from the bats that inhabit the Dark Caverns, but be careful not to get caught yourself!
3. Silver Ore: Prospect for it in the Mountain of Shadows using a pickaxe.
4. Holy Water: Obtain from the Chapel Ruins, but beware the undead guardians who protect the sacred springs.
5. Vampire Blood: This is tricky – you’ll need to find a willing vampire and persuade them to give up some of their blood. Good luck with that!
- Six Cloves of Garlic – Fast travel to the Imperial City Prison and head inside the Imperial Legion Office to grab the garlic from the cabinet in the back.
- Two Bloodgrass – Head to Claudette Perrick inside The Gilded Carafe, who sells this item.
- Five Nightshade – You can find Nightshade out in the forests. There is a good spot with multiple Nightshades just south of Skingrad.
- Blood of Argonian – For this, the witch will give you a dagger, which you can use to strike a friendly or hostile Argonian once to collect the blood.
- Vampire Dust – This will be marked on your map, and you can go to North Panther River to kill Hindaril and loot his corpse for the Ashes. The cave is filled with other enemies as well, so be careful not to aggro multiple enemies at the same time to avoid getting overwhelmed. Any ordinary ashes from a Vampire will not work.

Once you’ve gathered all necessary items, return to Melisande who will instruct you to wait for 24 hours as she prepares the potion. Following this time period, she’ll provide you with two Vampirism Cure Potions. You can consume one and keep the other for Hal-Liurz, who will guide you to meet the Count. After your meeting with the Count, you should go back to the Hall and wait another 24 hours. Subsequently, the Count will grant you a reward of 5,000 Gold, thereby finishing the quest.
