As a devoted fan of Ryan Murphy’s captivating and thought-provoking storytelling, I find myself utterly enthralled by the plethora of projects he has in store for us in the near future. With his unique ability to weave intricate narratives that delve deep into the human experience, it’s no wonder that his work resonates with such a vast audience.
Charlie Hunnam is channeling something sinister.
The actor formerly from “Sons of Anarchy” appeared almost unidentifiable as serial killer Ed Gein during the filming of Ryan Murphy’s “Monster” series, which took place on November 19 in Los Angeles.
In the anthology series, Hunnam completed his attire by wearing pants, a brown checkered button-up shirt, and a red plaid overcoat, topped off with a well-groomed pompadour hairstyle.
After wrapping up the narratives of Evan Peters portraying Jeffrey Dahmer, Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch as Nicolas and Erik Menendez in seasons one and two, Ryan Murphy unveiled a new plotline in September.
How exactly did Hunnam secure his role, given he’ll be working alongside Laurie Metcalf, Tom Hollander, and Olivia Williams? According to Murphy, it was Max Winkler, the director for several episodes, who facilitated the recruitment process.
Last month, when asked by Collider, he mentioned that he had a conversation about it with Max. Apparently, Max is acquainted with Charlie, and during their chat, Max exclaimed something along the lines of, “Wow, Charlie! Don’t you admire Charlie’s work?” To which I responded, “Indeed, I’ve long aspired to collaborate with him.
“So I met with Charlie and he’s just the most lovely person,” he continued. “He liked what we were doing. He liked what it’s about. Every generation gets the monster that they deserve, you know? So we’re writing about a lot of things, but he’s a wonderful guy.”
Murphy, a key figure behind the series’ creation alongside Ian Brennan, further revealed his thoughts on highlighting Gein as the focus in the most recent episode.
Following our discussion about Menendez, Ian and I pondered over the origin of our fascination with serial killers – specifically when and where did this intrigue originate? After conducting our research, it appears that the first individual who gained such notoriety was Ed, who became an immediate sensation upon his arrest.
He mentioned that no one had ever encountered anything similar before. However, it turned out – his determination was evident, but he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. The tale of how he transformed into who he did was quite intriguing.
Gein, often referred to as “The Butcher of Plainfield,” is one of the most productive serial killers ever known. During the 1950s, he gained notoriety when it was uncovered that in addition to murdering people, he engaged in necrophilia and crafted homes and clothing from their remains, according to Britannica. His eerie story has since left a lasting impact on the horror genre.
The show discusses an intriguing aspect: the numerous villains and the extensive influence of Ed Gein in pop culture, such as “Psycho,” “Silence of the Lambs,” “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “American Psycho,” and more. As Murphy told Collider, Gein has significantly shaped many elements over the past century. This season is particularly engaging to work on because it delves into the inquiry, ‘What sparked our fascination with this topic and why? Where did it all originate?’

Ryan Murphy’s debut Netflix production, titled “Ratched“, offers a prequel-like exploration of the character who was the nurse in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”. Actress Sarah Paulson will portray this central figure, and the remainder of the cast promises to be equally captivating.
In January, Murphy shared that production for the Netflix series “Ratched” will start in a few weeks. Excitedly, he and Sarah Paulson, who plays the title character and is also a producer, unveiled their impressive cast. They’ve assembled an exceptional ensemble of actors, many of whom have been on both Murphy and Paulson’s wish lists for collaboration. Here are the main cast members of “Ratched,” listed alphabetically: Jon Jon Briones, Charlie Carver, Judy Davis, Harriet Harris, Cynthia Nixon, Hunter Parrish, Amanda Plummer, Corey Stoll, Sharon Stone, and Finn Wittrock. There’s more to come, but with Sarah, Cynthia, Judy, Amanda, and Sharon all appearing together in scenes? I simply can’t wait!
Neither can we!
Murphy is teaming up with Jessica Lange once more for the musical satire, “The Politician.” This series features Ben Platt as a high school student who dreams of becoming the President of the United States one day. Alongside Platt and Lange, the cast includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, Bob Balaban, David Corenswet, Julia Schlaepfer, Laura Dreyfuss, Theo Germaine, Rahne Jones, and Benjamin Barrett. “The Politician” is set to premiere on September 27.
Murphy shared on Instagram: “I’m thrilled to let you know that my new Netflix series, which I’ve co-created with Ian Brennan, will start filming this summer! It’s a heartfelt tribute to the Golden Era of Hollywood, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with everyone. This will be my third show on Netflix, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we’re creating together. Stay tuned for more updates…

Ryan Murphy holds a deep affinity for the fresh Broadway musical “The Prom”. To begin with, he organized a unique presentation of the production that supported LGBTQ youth. Now, he is working to bring this very musical, in collaboration with its initial Broadway producers and creative minds, to Netflix.
The Prom is one of the most inspiring, emotional, and unique musicals I’ve ever witnessed on Broadway. It stands out as an original production that championingly portrays the triumph of the underdog and powerfully conveys in a magnificent, heartfelt manner that LGBTQ rights are equal to all human rights. What makes it even more meaningful for me is its setting in Indiana, a place where I too spent my formative years. I’m excited to share that we’re transforming this production into a Memorable Movie Experience on Netflix!
According to Murphy’s account, the series narrates the tale of a remarkably brave girl confronting injustice in a quaint town, with famous Broadway personalities rallying behind her.
Murphy intends to produce a Netflix movie adaptation of the trailblazing, yet slightly contentious Broadway production centering around a gathering of gay men, featuring the original cast on stage.
During the previous summer, ‘The Boys In the Band’ played on Broadway, setting house records at The Booth theatre, as shared by Murphy on Instagram. This coming summer, ‘The Boys In the Band’ will be filming a Netflix movie event. Joe Mantello, who directed the Broadway revival, will direct the film adaptation. The cast of ‘Boys’ was significant to me, and just like Mart Crowley’s pioneering work, they were equally groundbreaking. Every member of the cast was openly gay and proud…and feeling incredibly fortunate to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Mart’s trailblazing play. The entire Broadway cast will reprise their roles in the film. I am eagerly looking forward to being on set with Joe and Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, Andrew Rannells, Matt Bomer, Charlie Carver, Robin de Jesus, Tuc Watkins, Michael Benjamin Washington, and Brian Hutchison. I will be producing the film alongside David Stone and Ned Martel. Keep an eye out for ‘The Boys’ on Netflix in 2020.
The comedy-drama series titled “Scream Queens,” which featured stars like Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, and Lea Michele under the direction of Ryan Murphy, was taken off air by Fox following its second season in 2016. Recently, there have been discussions about the possibility of a revival for this show.
He mentioned on Instagram that there’s been lots of curiosity among people about either reviving or carrying on with the show “Scream Queens” (a shame it was taken away prematurely). Emma, Billie, Lea and he have discussed this possibility, but they’re pondering – should it be a six-episode limited series? A catch-up film instead? Who else should join the cast? He’s eager to hear everyone’s opinions. There are so many aspects to consider…
The series originally aired on Fox and was produced by 20th Century Fox Television. Unfortunately, Fox decided to cancel it, but who knows, it might find a new home on Netflix – after all, some strange things can happen!
