Despite not being able to attend the 2025 Billboard Latin Women in Music awards, Selena Gomez is still experiencing the familiar emotions of love.
Despite my hectic filming schedule in New York that day, I was still able to be part of the April 24 event in spirit, as I was honored as Woman of the Year. In a heartfelt video message, I expressed my deepest gratitude for being recognized, all the while cherishing the love and support from everyone present. And of course, I couldn’t help but share my excitement with my fiancé, music producer Benny Blanco, who was by my side through it all.
In the video, she expressed that it feels incredibly strong and meaningful to be noticed, encouraged, and applauded by fellow women who also trace their roots back to the same origin as hers. Growing up, she took great pride in her Mexican heritage but often found a lack of representation for women like herself, both in the foreground of stories and on stage. Rarely was it that our narratives, our voices, and our cultures were highlighted. They deserve to be celebrated.
Selena mentioned about her 2021 album “Revelación“, stating that it not only provided another chance for her to showcase her heritage, but also she was certain it would bring great pride to her grandmother.
In the end, to my devoted fans, I can’t stress this enough: Thank you, thank you, thank you from the depths of my heart. And I must express, I deeply cherish each one of you.
She has previously been awarded the distinguished title, with the 32-year-old earning the title of Woman of the Year at the Billboard Women in Music awards ceremony back in 2017. This recognition came only months after she underwent a kidney transplant due to her battles with lupus.
At the time, Selena was joined by pal and kidney donor Francia Raísa.
The former Disney Channel star emotionally expressed that Francia deserved the award, stating she had played a crucial role in saving her life. She also spoke about the challenging periods she faced during her health struggles. Despite having additional tasks this year, she managed to achieve quite a bit.
Speaking humbly about her fortune, Selena graciously credited the many women who supported her journey to reach where she is now.
She expressed feeling more proud to be a woman in her profession than ever before, and she attributed this pride to the fact that she feels completely comfortable with every woman who has supported and encouraged her.
In a heartfelt statement, the founder of Rare Beauty expressed her gratitude towards the many older women who have uplifted them. She shared that she wouldn’t be where she is today without their support and encouragement.
Selena humbly expressed gratitude, stating that she felt extremely fortunate. She then took a moment to acknowledge and appreciate the many women who played significant roles in helping her reach her current position.
She expressed feeling particularly proud to be a woman in her field on that day, adding that she has never felt more comfortable surrounded by every woman who has supported and encouraged her.
In her own words, the founder of Rare Beauty expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards the many older women who have provided support and inspiration. She acknowledged that she wouldn’t be where she is today without their invaluable contributions.
In 2021, Anitta was honored with the Vanguard Award at Billboard Latin Women in Music, while the late Celia Cruz, affectionately called the Queen of Salsa, was given the Legend Award posthumously.
Other recipients were given honors such as the Evolution Award to Belinda, the Impact Award to Chiquis, the Unbreakable Award to Ha*Ash, the Unstoppable Artist Award to Natti Natasha, and the Lifetime Achievement Award to Olga Tañón.
