As a seasoned observer and enthusiast of reality television, I must say that the drama unfolding among the Selling Sunset cast seems to be as captivating as their high-stakes real estate deals. It’s fascinating to see how these women navigate their professional and personal lives under the spotlight.
Mary Bonnet is giving her assessment.
No, not on one of her real estate properties—but on the drama that unfolded on season eight of Selling Sunset after Bre Tiesi told Chelsea Lazkani about her husband Jeff Lazkani’s alleged infidelity.
In an exclusive interview with TopMob News, Mary expressed her opinion that Bre made the correct decision. “If I were in her position,” she said, “I would appreciate someone informing me. Bre showed grace in how she handled it, and she was considerate. They’ve had disagreements before, but Bre isn’t one to be impolite if she doesn’t have to be. She’s straightforward, and I admire that quality about her.
Still, the reality star understands it was a tough situation for Chelsea.
She went on to say, “It’s tough for anyone to take in,” and she often observed people shifting the blame onto others when they don’t want to admit being hurt by someone. She explained, “I believe this is a common reaction, but I absolutely don’t think Bre is to blame.
Previously, Bre and Chelsea had experienced disagreements, primarily due to Chelsea commenting on Bre’s relationship with Nick Cannon, father of her 2-year-old son Legendary Love. However, it appeared as though they had managed to put their differences aside and move forward.
Earlier this season, Chelsea expressed that it feels as though we’ve discarded our defensive barriers. We are now making efforts to cultivate not just a strong professional bond, but also a close personal one.
After Amanda Lynn informed her friend that another woman had reportedly been seen kissing Chelsea’s husband, Jeff, in a hotel lobby, Bre passed this news onto Chelsea during a recorded conversation. TopMob News contacted Jeff’s lawyer and representatives for both him and Chelsea following the disclosure of these allegations in a season preview, but did not receive a response.
Initially, it appeared as though the costars maintained a friendly relationship, but later, Chelsea began to doubt whether Bre genuinely raised the allegations for the sake of the camera or if she had collaborated with Amanda to create a dramatic scene. However, Bre firmly denied that her intention was to exploit the drama.
Bre clarified during their call with Chelsea and co-stars Chrishell Stause and Emma Hernan: “I’ve shared this information with you already, so there’s no need for me to repeat it. I don’t want to be the one who has to confront her about it, as it doesn’t reflect well on me. It doesn’t benefit me, and it doesn’t sit comfortably with me, especially given our ongoing attempts to maintain a relationship.
In a chat with Entertainment Tonight, Bre asserted that Chelsea, Emma, and Chrishell were aware of the rumors of infidelity prior to the start of filming, and she also mentioned having an extensive discussion with Chelsea outside of the camera’s view.
However, Chelsea tells a different story.
In a September 9 Instagram Live conversation with Jessie Woo, Chelsea stated that Bre explicitly suggested having incriminating information against her. This is why, according to Chelsea, production decided to give Bre the scene with Amanda.
Following reports that Amanda shared something with Emma, Chelsea mentioned that she requested the production team to arrange an interaction between herself and Bre, in order to verify the rumor firsthand from Bre before it could potentially spread any more.
She stated, “‘This will be part of our narrative,'” she continued. “To the production team, I requested, ‘Let Bre share it with me first. I don’t want this information to circulate among ten colleagues in the office before it reaches me.’
In Chelsea’s own words: “I stayed put and observed as she acted like a true friend of a woman, hinting at a plot I had carefully arranged. I knew this could have turned out much more unpleasant.” (As of now, TopMob News is awaiting a response from Netflix regarding the matter.)
Regarding the impact of the gossip on her later divorce, Chelsea maintained to Entertainment Tonight that the details “were unrelated to the breakdown of my marriage.
Bre stated that Chelsea was aware of the accusations before filming began, as she had discussed it with her prior to any shooting taking place, even before another person (Amanda) joined.
However, Chelsea tells a different story.
In a September 9 Instagram Live conversation, Chelsea stated to Jessie Woo that “Bre clearly implied she had some information about me,” and further explained to the production team that this is likely why Bre was given the scene involving Amanda.
Following reports that Amanda had spoken with Emma, Chelsea claimed she requested production to arrange a conversation between herself and Bre, hoping to verify the gossip straight from Bre before it continued to circulate.
She stated, “‘This will be a storyline,'” she continued, explaining that she told production, “I’d prefer if Bre shares it with me first. I don’t want rumors circulating among ten colleagues in the office before they reach me.
In Chelsea’s own words, “I stayed there observing as she acted like a true friend of girls and hinted at a situation that I had carefully planned, because I was aware that the alternative could have been much more unpleasant.” (TopMob News is still waiting for Netflix’s response on this matter.)
Regarding the impact of the gossip on her later divorce, Chelsea clarified to Entertainment Tonight that “the rumor has no connection whatsoever with the breakdown of my marriage.
In the course of this season, Mary found herself in a personal conflict with Chelsea. During the program, she revealed that someone on social media had asked who was causing trouble the most and she named Chelsea. Later, she stated that Chelsea had sent her an impolite and unprofessional text. Additionally, Chelsea wasn’t pleased when Mary discussed with their superiors Brett and Jason Oppenheim about people commenting that Chelsea’s outfit was not suitable for work.
However, Mary suggests they’ve moved forward.
She expressed to TopMob that for her, it seemed like we overreacted on the issue. She texted about something, we had a disagreement, and then I felt her chosen outfit wasn’t suitable for work—not because she didn’t look good in it, but because when representing clients, it didn’t seem fitting. Still, we can have different opinions.
Mary’s new memoir, titled “Selling Sunshine“, published by HarperCollins on Sept. 24, delves into her rise to fame in reality television and her private life beyond the camera. In this book, she shares the advice she received from the creator of “Selling Sunset“, Adam DiVello, when the show initially premiered: “What you share and how you behave is ultimately under your control. In essence, I can’t use what you don’t offer.
Eight seasons later, Mary says this phrase is still valid.
She assured TopMob, ‘What I’m saying is entirely accurate.’ People might claim, ‘Oh, they’re manipulating this,’ she explained. However, edits can distort the overall view. Yet, actions and words leave a trace. You did or said something, it’s documented. So while things may be slightly misconstrued at times, generally speaking, events are as they appear.
