Send Help

Director Sam Raimi, known for his work on the Spider-Man trilogy and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is diving back into his horror roots with a new project titled “Send Help“. This upcoming horror-thriller is being produced by Disney’s 20th Century Studios. Rachel McAdams, who played Dr. Christine Palmer in the Raimi-directed Doctor Strange 2, will star opposite Dylan O’Brien, a familiar face from 20th Century Studio’s Maze Runner. The casting news was initially reported by Deadline.

In a survival horror thriller, we find two workplace comrades who are left marooned on an uninhabited island following a plane accident. With no other survivors around, they must navigate their past differences and collaborate to endure the challenges of the island. However, it’s not just about overcoming obstacles; it’s a test of determination and intelligence to emerge victorious in this fight for survival.

2022’s “Doctor Strange” sequel marked Sam Raimi’s return to directing after Disney’s “Oz the Great and Powerful,” a prequel to the Wizard of Oz, which was released in 2013. Known for his work on horror films like “Poltergeist” (2015), “Don’t Breathe” (2017), “Crawl” (2019), the remake of “The Grudge” (2019), and “Evil Dead Rise” (2023) through his production company, Ghost House Pictures, Raimi is also involved in the upcoming projects “Send Help,” produced by 20th Century, and new productions from his recently formed company, Raimi Productions, such as “65,” “Boy Kills World,” and Netflix’s “Don’t Move.

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who are known for writing movies like ‘Freddy vs. Jason’ (2003) and the remake of ‘Friday the 13th’ (2009), began working on their first project since they contributed to the Dwayne Johnson-led reboot of ‘Baywatch’ in 2017.

Lately, O’Brien has been featured in the Max Original thriller movie “Caddo Lake,” produced by M. Night Shyamalan, and in Jason Reitman’s “Saturday Night” as a young Dan Aykroyd. He also played Thomas in the 20th Century Studios’ hit “Maze Runner” trilogy, Stiles in the TV series “Teen Wolf,” and has an impressive list of credits that include “Love and Monsters,” “Infinite,” and the upcoming thriller “Anniversary.” This film revolves around a social movement called “The Change,” which creates tension within a close-knit family as it sweeps across the United States.

McAdams is particularly recognized for her performances as Regina George in the classic “Mean Girls” and Allie in “The Notebook.” Her more recent works encompass “True Detective,” “Game Night,” “Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret,” and “Dave” on FX.

Last October, there were discussions about Sam Raimi potentially directing Doctor Strange 3 for Marvel Studios at Disney, following his role as replacement director for Scott Derrickson in the second Doctor Strange film. In this movie, McAdams appeared alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Benedict Wong. However, it’s not expected that McAdams will return for the third installment, which Marvel Studios has yet to officially announce. Raimi, who brought a horror element to the multi-verse film, has also shown interest in helming a future Batman movie and possibly Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire.
