Seth Green Reflects on Traumatic Bill Murray Experience (and Eddie Murphy’s Advice)

Last week, Seth Green spoke candidly about the well-known Bill Murray incident during an interview with ComicBook. He disclosed that Eddie Murphy offered him sound guidance at the time. Green initially discussed his encounter with Murray back in 2022 on the show “Good Mythical Morning”, and it was not a pleasant tale. Green joined Saturday Night Live (SNL) when he was just 9 years old for a minor role in the “Weekend Update” segment, and Murray was the host that week. According to Green, they had a disagreement over seating arrangements that escalated into a physical altercation, leaving him genuinely upset. Looking back on it now, Green admits that this incident served as a significant milestone in his career.

Last week, Green shared some memories from the 20th anniversary of his show Robot Chicken, which coincided with the recent milestone of SNL’s 50th anniversary. To refresh your memory, in 2022 Green narrated an incident where Murray picked him up by the feet, turned him upside down, and threatened to throw him into a trash can saying “The trash goes in the trash can.” Panicked, Green flailed his arms and accidentally hit Murray’s private parts. Consequently, Murray dropped him into the trash can, which overturned. Shaken, Green ran away, hid under a table in his dressing room, and cried.

Last week, when the topic resurfaced, Green admitted that he’s never had an encounter with Murray as an adult since their initial meeting. In his words, “We’ve never met again.” Interestingly, this means he bears no grudge against him. Remarkably, that night was quite significant in Green’s career, despite seeming trivial. He expressed a deep desire to return home after the encounter, as it had left a profound impact on him, and he didn’t want to continue with the job.

Later on, it was Eddie Murphy and Tim Kazurinsky, both quite young at the time, who took the effort to locate me and offer comfort. I’ll always remember that Eddie said, ‘Hey buddy, don’t let anyone else stop you from doing your part. The show needs to continue.’

Green isn’t the only one who has alleged inappropriate conduct by Murray on set, and as of now, Murray hasn’t publicly addressed Green’s claims. However, Green was eager to discuss more uplifting topics, such as the 20-year anniversary of Robot Chicken. This popular series has been running on Adult Swim for two decades, and Green expressed his excitement about the show’s upcoming phase, kicking off with the Robot Chicken Self-Discovery Special, set to air this summer. In the interim, you can catch up on Robot Chicken episodes on Max.
