It’s been over twenty years since we last witnessed Seth Green playing Scott, Dr. Evil’s son, on the big screen in the Austin Powers movie series. However, there may be more to come if those involved with the franchise have their way. In an interview with ComicBook, Green expressed his belief that a fourth Austin Powers film could be possible, given the positive response to the amusing General Motors Super Bowl ad from 2022. Moreover, he hinted that Dr. Evil might receive some updates as well.
Green expressed his belief that it’s 50-50, finding it surprising because when they created the Super Bowl commercial a few years back, everyone seemed to think it worked flawlessly. However, he feels there’s still potential for more, he mentioned. Regarding Mike Myers’ recent work on The Pentaverate, Green hinted at a possible idea that Myers had suggested: just as there was an Austin Powers trilogy, what if there could be a Dr. Evil trilogy?
The suggestion of another Austin Powers film hasn’t recently sprung up out of nowhere. A couple of years back, Mike Myers, the actor who played both the hero Austin Powers and the villain Dr. Evil in the series, expressed openness to creating a fourth installment, but he couldn’t guarantee it would actually come to fruition.
Myers humorously stated that he wouldn’t be able to verify whether there is or isn’t such a program, even if it does or doesn’t exist. But he certainly seems keen on the idea.
As a cinephile, I’ve been daydreaming about the prospect of another installment in that beloved franchise. The director, Jay Roach, has hinted at his readiness for a fourth film, but he’s made it clear that it hinges on Mike Myers coming up with an idea that sparks our collective imagination.
Roach expressed that while nothing is set in stone, he’s open to any ideas that Mike Myers might have. However, for a collaboration to happen, it requires Mike to be passionate about something first, and as of now, they haven’t found the right idea after all these years.
What Could a Dr. Evil Movie Spinoff Be About?
In the current scenario, a Dr. Evil movie or series hasn’t been produced yet, but thinking about what such a production might involve isn’t far-fetched. The third Austin Powers film, Goldmember (2002), disclosed that Dr. Evil is actually Austin’s brother, Dougie. As narrated by Austin and Dr. Evil’s father, Nigel (portrayed by Michael Gaine), a car accident they experienced as kids led to the belief that only Austin had survived. Instead, Dougie was raised by wicked Belgians, resulting in his transformation into Dr. Evil. However, this revelation brings Austin and his newly discovered brother together, while infuriating Scott Evil, who seizes his father’s position, vowing revenge against Austin Powers.
In one scenario, a movie about Dr. Evil might focus on the character Scott, portraying him as Dr. Evil, after his vow for retaliation. Alternatively, it could delve deeper into Dr. Evil’s past, serving as a prequel-like story that sheds light on the origins of this infamous villain.
