It turned out that Tom Cruise, famed actor from the Mission Impossible series and a Hollywood icon, felt an immediate liking towards Tillman when they first met during casting for the movie. McQuarrie had presented a picture of Tillman to Cruise, commenting that there was something exceptional about him, which resonated with Cruise as he replied, “I’m smitten by him.
Tillman shared that he had never come across that specific story previously. He responded with “That’s really interesting!” Then, he mentioned that on set, Cruise greeted him and expressed his happiness to have Tillman there. In essence, Tillman confided that while he felt Cruise’s greeting was sincere, he was unaware that Cruise was a fan. (The Severance actor clarified this.)
In the series “Severance,” Tillman portrays a character who transforms from a supervisor to the manager of a division within Lumon Industries, serving as the main antagonist throughout. Over the course of the show’s two seasons, this role has given rise to numerous memes and GIFs, such as his popular “music dance experience” scene and catchphrases like “devour feculence.
In “The Final Reckoning,” Tillman takes on a significant yet subtle role as Captain Bledsoe, the commander of a submarine crucial for Ethan Hunt’s mission against an evil AI. Much like his character Mr. Milchick, Captain Bledsoe carries an air of mystery around him, according to Tillman himself.

Tillman Was Ecstatic About His Mission: Impossible Role
As Tillman shared, his outstanding performance in “Severance” caught the attention of Christopher McQuarrie, who expressed his admiration for the series. During a Zoom conversation that Tillman believed was about the TV show, McQuarrie surprisingly proposed inviting him to feature in his next Mission: Impossible film.
After discussing Mission: Impossible, he mentioned there could be a part for me. Intrigued, I inquired about it. I asked, “What’s next? What’s the arrangement?” He replied, “Ponder over it, and if you wish to accept the role, it’s yours.” Excitedly, I closed my laptop, jumped up and down, and ran around my apartment upon hearing the news. Following a call with his team, he agreed to the offer.
The movie “Mission: Impossible – The Last Stand” is currently showing in cinemas, while the series “Severance” can be streamed on Apple TV+.
