In the debut of Season 2 for the series “Severance,” Keanu Reeves, known for his roles in “The Matrix” and “John Wick,” made a surprising appearance as the voice of an animated Lumon building. This was showcased in the “Lumon is Listening” video that the Macrodata Refinement team saw, presented by Milchick (played by Tramell Tillman). The characters Mark (Adam Scott), Dylan (Zach Cherry), Helly (Britt Lower), and Irving (John Turturro) watched in bewilderment as this talking building introduced itself with a friendly demeanor. The animated Lumon building displayed a cheerful face and spoke in a gentle tone, introducing itself as the Lumon Administrative Building Branch 501, or simply “Lumon” for short. This animation aimed to comfort them, suggesting that despite changes at Lumon Industries throughout the years, they have always valued their employees, be they ‘unsevered’ or ‘severed.’
In an engaging chat with Collider, the mastermind behind the series, Dan Erickson, shared the crucial factor that the character’s voice needed a “warm and inviting” essence. Eventually, they found that Keanu Reeves was the perfect fit to bring this captivating persona to life.
He mentioned that multiple individuals were discussed for the position, as they aimed to find someone who carries specific positive connotations but also exudes a welcoming and compassionate demeanor. The character in this video is reminiscent of the friendly atmosphere at Lumon and has a voice with warmth and empathy.
In a surprising appearance, Reeves’ role provided extra insights into Lumon Industries, hinting that this global corporation operates out of 206 offices globally. The animated Lumon humbly admitted that his basement is one of the top-tier severed workspaces among all these offices. He then went on to discuss the rebellious acts of the four, which would forever be known in Lumon history as “the MacroDat uprising.” Instead of facing punishment, this building character explained how their passionate protests sparked “substantial changes” within Lumon, ranging from improved vending machine options to unusual perks such as the “whimsical mirror room.
In his latest acting gig, Reeves made a guest appearance on the critically acclaimed TV show. This role adds to his growing list of voice-acting jobs. Most recently, he voiced Shadow in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ and ‘Sonic X Shadow Generations’. His voice can also be heard as Batman in Warner Bros.’ animated film ‘DC League of Super-Pets’, Johnny Silverhand in the sci-fi game ‘Cyberpunk 2077’, and Duke Caboom in ‘Toy Story 4’. In 2025, you’ll see him reprise his role as John Wick in the spinoff film ‘Ballerina’, alongside Ana de Armas.
