Severance Season 3 Coming?

Apple TV+ has officially extended the run of “Severance” for a third season, thanks to the phenomenal success of Season 2. The gripping drama series has set new records on the streaming platform, outperforming all three seasons of “Ted Lasso,” making it Apple’s marquee show. This renewal was anticipated as executive producer Ben Stiller had earlier disclosed that a writers’ room was already working on the next installment before the official announcement. The Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series, featuring Adam Scott, will carry forward the story of employees at Lumon Industries whose memories are divided between their work and personal lives.

Executive producer and director Stiller found it one of the most creatively exhilarating ventures he’s ever been involved with when making ‘Severance’, he shared in the show’s renewal news. He’s told that working on season three will be just as enjoyable, but any remembrance of these forthcoming events will be erased from his memory, just like the series’ central theme suggests. Similarly, actor and executive producer Adam Scott is thrilled to rejoin the crew for another season, adding a humorous in-show comment: ‘I can’t express enough my excitement to work with Ben, Dan, our amazing cast & team, Apple, and everyone behind the scenes of ‘Severance’. By the way, if you bump into my alter ego, don’t remind him about this at all. Cheers!’

Dan Erickson, creator of “Severance,” expressed his excitement about making more of the show with an amazing cast and crew, saying it’s more exciting than all the world’s puzzles put together. He can’t wait to keep creating emotions like joy, fear, suspense, and mischief alongside these exceptional individuals. Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, highlighted the show’s importance to their platform: “The magic that Ben, Dan, Adam, and the talented team behind ‘Severance’ have created is clear. We’re incredibly proud to be the home for this extraordinary series, and we can’t wait for viewers to see what’s coming in season three.

When Can We Expect Season 3 of Severance?

Apple TV+ hasn’t given a definite release date for Season 3 of Severance, but it seems unlikely fans will have to endure another three-year wait like they did between seasons one and two. According to Ben Stiller, the production schedule will be much shorter this time around. In an interview on the New Heights podcast, Stiller clarified that they won’t be waiting three years. “The plan is not to [wait three years],” he said. “We should be announcing our plans quite soon.” The lengthy gap between seasons one and two was primarily due to the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which disrupted many production schedules. Fortunately, these circumstances shouldn’t impact the third season’s development.

Based on the writers’ room being set and preparations starting as early as late 2024, it’s possible that filming might commence by the end of 2025. Given that Season 2 took 186 days to shoot plus additional post-production time, we can estimate that Season 3 could realistically air in early 2027 if there are no significant delays within the industry. However, considering Apple’s eagerness to showcase its series, they might expedite the schedule for a sooner release.

Both seasons of Severance are currently available on Apple TV+
