Sew Torn – DIGITAL DOWNLOAD

As a movie aficionado, I can’t help but reflect on the choices we all make in life – some are simple corrections, while others are so devastating they haunt us forever. Take Prince Harry for example. In the gripping film “Sew Torn,” we delve into Barbara’s (Eve Connolly) contemplations as the camera captures a chaotic scene of destruction, with bodies scattered amidst the wreckage of cars and a blazing building in the background. The question arises: How did Barbara find herself in such a dire situation? The answer lies in one crucial decision she made, which unfolds over the three-part narrative of this thought-provoking film.

Barbara is a tailor, struggling following her mother’s passing and managing the family’s ailing haberdashery store. The narrative in “Sew Torn” unfolds from an encounter with a demanding bridezilla client who puts Barbara under pressure while sewing on a button. This minor incident sets the stage for Barbara to make a choice, which will determine one of three possible outcomes.

Barbara finds herself driving back to the store on an empty road, only to stumble upon the remnants of a motorcycle accident involving two severely injured riders. Scattered around them are two firearms, a pile of money, and a bag full of white powder. Her voiceover / inner monologue murmurs “Perfect crime…call the police,…. drive away.” The narrative then delves into the consequences of each of these three choices, each ending in a unique way.

In the style of the Coen Brothers, Freddy MacDonald both wrote and directed this film, showcasing unique and eccentric scenes that utilize Barbara’s sewing talents in ways you’ve never seen before. The movie is full of charm, with Eve Connolly delivering a delicate yet resilient performance as the lead, while John Lynch portrays a ruthless drug dealer and K. Callan plays both the town sheriff and wedding registrar. Each story within the film is distinctly different, similar to ‘The Last Stop in Yuma County’, another unusual thriller. Despite not receiving a theatrical release, this movie is worth seeking out for its fresh take on the genre.
