As a devoted fan of Kristin Davis, it is heartbreaking to learn about her father’s passing, particularly after such a long and courageous battle against Parkinson’s disease. Her touching tribute to Tom Atkinson, her extraordinary father who led an equally extraordinary life, resonates deeply with me.
Kristin Davis is grieving the loss of her father.
On November 18, the actress from Sex and the City announced that her father, Tom Atkinson, had passed away after a long struggle of over a decade with Parkinson’s disease.
Kristin posted on Instagram about her father’s passing and the heartfelt gathering we had in accordance with his wishes for a ‘celebration of life.’ The event featured a lovely jazz band and provided insight into Tom’s remarkable life experiences.
The star of “And Just Like That”, who is the mother of two kids, Gemma Rose (11 years old) and Wilson (5 years old), also paid tribute to Tom’s life as a researcher and educator.
Originally hailing from a riverfront cabin in North Carolina, he later captivated audiences worldwide with his talks on psychological research. His passion for teaching was evident, as he thrived in this role. He was an intelligent and illuminating figure whose charisma endeared him to many,” she went on to say.
Kristin continued to thank Dorothy Davis, her mother, and the medical staff of her father, who were instrumental in caring for him during his final days.
In her message, she reflected on the dedicated care my mother provided for him, as well as the medical professionals and home healthcare workers. She expressed profound gratitude for the support he received and admiration for his determination during a true and challenging battle.
As I well understand that numerous individuals, including myself, are pouring out love and vitality in nurturing those around us, I feel compelled to express this sentiment: It’s a demanding task, but one filled with love. In particular, I hold my dear mother close to my heart during these moments.
In a final message to him, Kristin added, “We love you dad and we are so grateful you lit up our lives and left us with so much.”
After hearing about her father’s death, Kristin’s “Sex and the City” co-star, Cynthia Nixon, visited to offer comfort as a friend.
Kristin, you’ve done something truly stunning, Cynthia noted. It’s clear that he would feel immense pride to be recognized in this manner by you. Moreover, I know this gesture means a great deal to your mother as well. You were an absolute rock at work, both before and after his passing, and I can only imagine how challenging that must have been for you.
You’ve consistently been a wonderful daughter to both of your parents, and now an exceptional mother to your own children,” she went on. “I encourage you to make room for self-care and allow yourself time to mourn for him in your own way. Know that I care deeply for you.
