Following EastEnders’ victory at the British Soap Awards in May, Shane Richie is harboring ambitious plans for expanding the cast of characters in Walford.
Richie, who came back to EastEnders in 2022 to play Alfie Moon for a fourth time, mentioned during an interview on The One Show (BBC One, Wednesday 11th June) that he’s eager for Only Fools and Horses icon Sir David Jason to appear in the square. He’s been making efforts to bring the well-known British actor onto the soap.
Last month, EastEnders won the title of Best Soap at the British Soap Awards, and the well-known 85-year-old actor, famous for his memorable role as Del Boy Trotter, handed the trophy to the show’s cast.
On The One Show, Richie was questioned about his recent award win, sharing the stage with Marvel actor Jeremy Renner and hosts Alex Jones and Angellica Bell. However, he couldn’t help but hint at his intentions to enlist Jason in a future project.
He said: “Well, we got presented the award by David Jason, and now this is between us.
“David Jason, big famous actor, say nothing, I’m trying to get him into EastEnders.”

Addressing the camera playfully, he quipped: “Perhaps it would be better if you switched channels or looked away, as this may not interest you.
And then revealed: “I’m trying to get him into it.”
Asked if he had spoken to Jason about the matter, he replied: “Not sure just yet! Maybe I’ll buy him a drink instead.
Over the past four years, the most significant television moment for this 85-year-old was providing the voice for Del Boy on an episode of The Apprentice, which aired in 2023.
Among his notable television roles, Jason has also appeared on shows like Open All Hours, A Touch of Frost, and The Darling Buds of May.
