Actor Simu Liu, famed for his portrayal as the main character in Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” has shown interest in starring in a film version of the influential video game “Sleeping Dogs.
On social media platform X, Liu discussed his endeavor to present a movie version of “Sleeping Dogs” to film executives who didn’t grasp the title. Moreover, he expressed his hope for a future installment of the title.
Liu stated in the post that only a small number of movie projects transition from the pitch stage to the greenlight phase,” said Liu. “Pitching executives who don’t grasp the game can be exhausting. However, the immense enthusiasm for Sleeping Dogs has truly revitalized us!
“First a movie, then a sequel game for everyone… that’s always been the dream.”
The latest news regarding a “Sleeping Dogs” film dates back to 2018 when action star Donnie Yen confirmed it was in development. Lately, though, Yen has expressed that the project appears to be stalled or, as he puts it, “basically dead.
Yen shared in a Polygon interview that they’ve put in considerable effort and resources with these producers, including their own funds for the drafts and rights acquisition. After enduring years of waiting, they’re eager to see their project come to life. They have vivid mental images of how it should be, but unfortunately, the Hollywood process hasn’t gone as planned, resulting in a disappointing situation that they’ve been working on for multiple years.
Sleeping Dogs is a highly acclaimed open-world action game where players step into the role of undercover cop Wei Shen. This game delves into an intricate narrative about rival gangs in Hong Kong, illustrating how crime can seep into everyday life and its impact. The game first came out in 2012 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 platforms.
Few movie ideas actually progress from the initial concept stage to production. It can be exhausting pitching executives who don’t grasp the industry dynamics. However, the immense enthusiasm for “Sleeping Dogs” we’ve encountered has truly invigorated us!
