As a seasoned gamer and long-time anime enthusiast, I must say that “Shangri-La Frontier” is a gem hidden among the vast digital landscapes of modern animation. While it may initially remind one of the well-known Isekai series like Sword Art Online or Log Horizon, it offers a refreshing twist on the genre – one where our protagonist Rakuro Hizutome isn’t trapped but is instead using his skills honed from playing “trash games” to excel in this new MMORPG setting.
In essence, “Shangri-La Frontier” could be set within a digital world similar to that of “Sword Art Online” and “Log Horizon,” but it’s not an Isekai in the traditional sense. Instead, protagonist Rakuro Hizutome interacts with this virtual environment as if it were simply a game. Though he doesn’t find himself stuck inside the game and battling for survival, the anime still delivers intense action and a captivating narrative.
