As a devoted viewer who has witnessed the rise and fall of countless TV series, I can confidently say that Bad Sisters is one of those rare gems that comes along once in a blue moon. The show’s unique blend of humor, suspense, and strong female characters is not just entertaining but also remarkably refreshing.
The BAFTA-winning comedy thriller Bad Sisters was only supposed to be a one-off.
Originally derived from a captivating Belgian series named Clan by the talented Sharon Horgan, it was intended to shine intensely and vanish without trace. However, contrary to expectations, viewers came up with alternative plans, and much like other successful shows, the power of word-of-mouth sparked excitement and viewership numbers that couldn’t be overlooked.
Following Sharon Horgan’s insight, I found myself with a feeling that there was potential for more, and my mind continued to brim with ideas about what could unfold. Fortunately, the rest of our talented cast shared this sentiment, promptly agreeing to join me in bringing the sequel to life.
This week’s TopMob features an interview with the main cast, exploring what sets Bad Sisters apart. For Eve Hewson, it boils down to the fact that Sharon’s character has a unique ability to portray a woman in distress and transform her into a heroine, while also possessing an endearing charm and comic flair rolled into one.
A thrilling and funny drama written by a woman with five female leads is something to be celebrated. For more of that, read our interview with Rebecca Hall on her own return to TV in The Listeners, which is also directed by a woman, Janicza Bravo. Sisters really are doing it for themselves, and long may that continue.
