Sharon Horgan’s next role confirmed in Amanda Knox true crime series

As a long-time admirer of Sharon Horgan’s comedic prowess and creative genius, I must admit I was taken aback when I heard about her upcoming role in the true crime series Amanda. However, after reflecting on her versatile acting career and diverse portfolio, I am now eagerly anticipating this dramatic turn.

As we eagerly anticipate the arrival of Bad Sisters season 2, details have emerged about Sharon Horgan’s upcoming role – a departure from the humorous parts and writing that her fans are accustomed to.

In a new development, the creator and lead actress of The Bad Sisters will take center stage in Hulu’s forthcoming true-crime series titled Amanda, which is inspired by the real events surrounding Amanda Knox, who was erroneously accused of murdering her roommate Meredith Kercher.

For approximately four years, Knox stayed imprisoned in Italy due to the 2007 murder of Kercher. During a 2009 court case, she was found guilty alongside her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, who received a sentence of 26 years in prison.

In the upcoming series, Horgan is set to portray Edda Mellas, Knox’s mother, whereas Grace Van Paten from “Tell Me Lies” is cast in the lead role as Knox herself.

As reported by Deadline, the character portrayed by Horgan, Edda Mellas, is depicted as a mother who is both desperate and hopeful. This emotional balance is put to the test due to Amanda’s imprisonment, yet Edda’s steadfast love for her daughter drives her to fiercely advocate for Amanda’s survival.

Indeed, I’m recognized for both acting in and producing shows such as Pulling, Catastrophe, Bad Sisters, Motherland, Shining Vale, and Divorce. It’s a pleasure to be part of these projects.

In an earlier announcement, it was revealed that Horgan’s latest series would feature Margaret Qualley portraying the lead character Knox. However, Qualley has now been substituted by Van Patten for this role.

For those who enjoy Horgan’s work, mark your calendars! The second season of “Bad Sisters” is set to debut on Apple TV+ starting this November. Each week, a fresh episode will be available all the way until December 25th.

The new season begins two years following the “unintended demise” of John Paul. According to the plot summary, although the Garvey sisters appear to have moved on, when long-buried facts reemerge, they find themselves back under scrutiny. Suspicions run deep, falsehoods are spoken, secrets are disclosed, and the sisters must determine who is trustworthy among them.
