As a gamer with a soft spot for movies that blend humor and horror, I can confidently say that the upcoming 4K Steelbook release of Shaun of the Dead is a must-have addition to my collection. With its comic book-inspired design, it’s not just a visual treat but also a nostalgic nod to one of the funniest and most memorable horror films ever made.

We’ve come across numerous striking 4K Steelbook cases throughout the years, but the comic-style design of the latest Shaun of the Dead edition truly stands out as exceptional. This Steelbook version marks the 20th anniversary of the most hilarious horror movie ever produced, and you can secure it for yourself with a 20% discount using the code SIGNUP20 at GRUV’s checkout or directly on Amazon priced at $29.99. Given that it’s a limited edition item, we recommend grabbing one soon before they disappear from shelves. The anticipated release date is December 3rd, as per GRUV’s announcement.

Note that a standard 4K Blu-ray is also available here at GRUV and here on Amazon, but it’s definitely worth it to spend an extra $4 on the Steelbook in our opinion. Special features on the release include a Shaun of the Dead: 20 Bloody Years roundtable with director Edgar Wright and stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. There’s also outtakes, deleted scenes, commentaries, casting tapes, Simon Pegg’s video diary, zombie gallery, makeup tests, extended bits, Edgar and Simon’s flip chart, a storyboard gallery, and more.

Will Shaun of the Dead Ever Get a Reboot?

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Simon Pegg stated, “Universal has control over it. If they decide to remake it, they certainly have the right to do so. However, Edgar and I would undoubtedly be upset by this.” The film “Shaun of the Dead” holds a special place for us. It’s filled with our personal experiences. The running joke about Shaun and Ed never leaving The Winchester was based on reality. That represented Nick and my own decision to stay in a North London pub. Edgar was always in town, often at Soho’s clubs, especially The Groucho. He would invite us, but we preferred staying at The Shepherds. This inspired the entire storyline of Shaun and his girlfriend, who is now my wife, wanting to go to The Shepherds again and again.

He went on to explain, “My relationship with Shaun’s stepfather was difficult. It was Edgar who suggested killing Shaun’s mother, which I found hard to believe but ultimately agreed was the right move. Our movie is deeply rooted in our emotions and soul. If someone were to remake it, I fear it would be a money-grabbing attempt. I hope that people appreciate Shaun enough to resist a remake. The character of Gary King in The World’s End was also based on my own struggles with alcoholism. It was a very personal film.

How About a Sequel?

“I adore sequels, and some of my favorite movies are actually sequels like ‘Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Aliens’. I’m part of film franchises that reboot and repeat, but I believe that not all stories need sequels. Some stories have a clear beginning, middle, and end, such as Shaun of the Dead, and if we were to make another movie featuring Shaun, it would require resetting everything we established in the first film, which would mean undoing Shaun’s growth and development. This seems unnecessary because the main purpose of cinema should be to stimulate audiences by presenting new perspectives and experiences. I think entertainment is often overvalued when it comes to art.

One day, every man must rise from the couch…and eliminate some zombies. When flesh-eating zombies are searching for a meal, it falls upon the slacker Shaun (Simon Pegg) and his closest friend (Nick Frost) to protect their loved ones from becoming dinner.

Prepare yourself for an uproariously funny, action-packed horror comedy experience: “Shaun of the Dead”! Every man eventually faces a moment when he must rise from his couch…and fight off some zombies. When zombies are on the prowl, it’s Shaun (Simon Pegg), a seemingly ordinary slacker, and his loyal friend who step up to protect their loved ones from becoming the main course. Satisfy your craving for a blend of humor and terror as this film receives rave reviews from horror masters and film critics alike, touted as the funniest and scariest movie of the year. Novelist Stephen King praises it as a “10 on the fun meter” and Newsweek calls it a “bloody hoot.” This zomedy will have you laughing until you drop!

Under the direction of Edgar Wright, this movie features Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Kate Ashfield, Lucy Davis, Bill Nighy, Dylan Moran, Penelope Wilton, Jessica Stevenson, Peter Serafinowicz, and Rafe Spall in significant roles.
