Shawn Mendes Reveals He Was "About to Be a Father" in New Single

As a long-time follower and admirer of Shawn Mendes‘ journey, I must say that his latest release “Why Why Why” has left me both intrigued and moved. His ability to pour his heart out through his music, especially after going through such tumultuous periods in his personal life, is truly commendable.

Now why why why is Shawn Mendes saying this?

On August 8th, the 26-year-old unveiled two songs titled “Why Why Why” and “Isn’t That Enough?” from his forthcoming album called “Shawn“. In the first song, he subtly suggests a past experience involving a possible pregnancy scare.

“On this song,” Shawn expresses, “I felt like I might become a dad. It hit me hard, as I’m just a child at heart. Occasionally, I even yearn for the comfort of my mom.”

In other parts of the track, the artist famously known as “Stitches” (who has been associated with Camila Cabello, Jocelyne Miranda, and Sabrina Carpenter in the past) shares his struggles with his history and present choices, including ending a previous relationship.

In my own words, Shawn croons, “I’m drenched in sweat beneath the covers, trembling on the mattress.” “Her image, bare and captivating, fills my mind,” he continues. “Yet, I made a decision to step away and prioritize myself instead.”

TopMob News has reached out to Shawn’s rep for comment but has not yet heard back.

For Shawn, the process of creating the new music has been like “medicine,” he admitted.

About two years back, I found myself utterly clueless about my identity, as expressed by the award-winning artist in a post from July on Instagram, who has been vocal about his mental health battles. A year ago, just imagining stepping into a recording studio would trigger a full-blown panic attack. But to be standing here today, with 12 completed songs, feels like an incredible blessing.

At the point he made that personal announcement, he was still recovering emotionally from his 2021 split with Camila. However, they momentarily reignited their relationship during the summer of 2023.

In a more recent turn of events, the pair who collaborated on “Señorita” reunited during the Copa America tournament, but Camila Cabello has mentioned before that her relationship with Shawn Mendes is unlikely to resume in a romantic capacity.

In April, she pondered over her feelings on the podcast “Call Her Daddy.” She acknowledged that fortunately, she was at a point in her life where it didn’t take long for her to understand that things weren’t right. Both of them quickly came to the conclusion that it wasn’t working and didn’t require much effort to move on. It simply wasn’t feeling right, so they decided to part ways amicably, expressing their affection for each other while moving forward separately.
