Sheinelle Jones’ Heartbreaking Loss: Husband Uche Ojeh Passes Away from Brain Cancer

Sheinelle Jones is going through a heartbreaking loss

On May 23rd, Savannah Guthrie shared on Today that the regular co-host who has been missing from the morning show for several months, unfortunately lost her husband Uche Ojeh after a long fight against glioblastoma.

On this unfortunate day, we mournfully announce that Uche Ojeh, spouse of our cherished friend and co-host on Today, Sheinelle Jones, has lost his life following a valiant struggle against glioblastoma, a particularly aggressive type of brain cancer. Guthrie shared this heartbreaking news during the broadcast on May 23rd. There is simply no way to express the sorrow we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children at this trying time.

In 2007, this pair got married and have two children: a 15-year-old named Kayin Ojeh, as well as twin girls, Clara Ojeh and Uche Ojeh, who are both 12 years old.

Guthrie emphasized, “Uche was truly exceptional, and everyone adored him. We’d like to share some insights about the extraordinary individual who was perfectly matched with Sheinelle in their lives.

The broadcast went on to delve into the relationship between Jones and Ojeh, referring to him as her “ideal partner.” They highlighted how his “vibrant personality coupled with silent resilience” made him a perfect fit for the anchor on Today.

They first encountered each other when they were teenagers at Northwestern University, eventually getting married in 2007, and then becoming parents to three kids.

In today’s tribute, it was stated that Uche had a unique ability to fill every space with radiance, comfort, and happiness. Today, we mournfully honor his life, as he was a devoted husband, caring father, and an individual whose generous heart left an impact on everyone who crossed paths with him.

Earlier this year, Jones addressed her absence from Today in a message to fans.

In her January Instagram post, she expressed gratitude to everyone who had contacted her during her absence from the show, saying, “I’d like to tell you that I’m currently focusing on addressing a personal family health issue.

The journalist acknowledged, “I can’t help but appreciate the good fortune I’ve had – not just the backing of my ‘Today’ Show colleagues, but your support as well. Your compassion truly touches me. I’ll be seeing you again soon.

On the January 15 edition of Today, Craig Melvin and Savannah were among those who discussed Jones’ absence.

The co-anchors mentioned that they’ve noticed a lot of you inquiring about Sheinelle, as well as feeling her absence. They shared the same sentiment.

When Ojeh’s passing was announced, the co-anchors made a point to express their heartfelt sympathies, conveying “all their affection” towards Jones and her kin.

Melvin, who played golf with Ojeh last fall, spoke about one recurring topic during the memorial: his deep affection for children. He adored those kids more than anything else in this world and took great pride in them. Much like a dedicated father, he was always present on the sidelines of soccer games, concerts, and recitals – truly embodying that role.

Meanwhile Al Roker added, “He was a quiet guy, but he was wickedly funny.”

As he put it, “He was a very humble man.”

In early May, it fell upon Today’s Dylan Dreyer to convey some sad news about her friend, as Jones herself was not available.

At the 2025 Kentucky Derby, she informed TopMob News that “Things are managing okay,” she said. “She’s persevering. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for her and her loved ones. You know, she’s currently experiencing a challenging period with her family.

Dreyer mentioned that one member of our team communicates with her daily. We are always ready to assist her, and as soon as she returns, we will embrace her warmly.
