Sheridan Smith thriller The Castaways confirms Channel 5 air date

The Sheridan Smith-led thriller “The Castaways” has set its debut date on Channel 5, giving many new audience members a chance to delve into the enigmatic storyline set in a tropical locale.

The show initially debuted on the streaming platform Paramount Plus; however, it’s set to air for the first time on Channel 5, beginning at 9 pm on Sunday, 26th January 2025.

In a new adventure, Castaways’ stars Smith join forces with Céline Buckens, an actress hailing from Showtrial, playing the roles of siblings Lori and Erin. These sisters are all set to embark on an extraordinary journey to the stunningly beautiful island of Fiji, which they refer to as “the vacation of a lifetime.

Ultimately, an eleventh-hour disagreement causes Erin to back out of the journey, and tragically, her choice turns out to be significant as Lori’s plane mysteriously vanishes without a sign.

For several months, it’s been assumed that Smith is deceased, yet when a credit card transaction occurs on a Pacific island, Erin embarks on a mission to discover exactly what happened to her and unravel the mystery surrounding her disappearance.

At its debut, Smith shared with the media: “This is a whole new experience for me, and the team has been incredibly encouraging.

They said, “We’ll be turning you into quite the tough character.” I replied, “Wow, best of luck with that!” I’m accustomed to portraying cardigan-wearing mothers from up north.

They told me, “We aim to make you seem really cool and strong in this role.” I responded, “Oh my goodness, I hope it goes well.” I’m known for playing motherly characters who wear cardigans from northern regions.

She continued: “They really helped me and gave me loads of confidence and I absolutely loved it.

Initially, as I sprinted back and forth on the sandy shoreline, I developed a sharp pain in my side, but ultimately, I grew to enjoy it immensely. If given another chance, I’d relish participating in more of this activity – I can only hope that I get selected for it; we’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds.

Smith stated: “Being petrified of water, I found myself immersed for much of the performance. Fearful of heights, I was perched in a tree and teetering on a cliff edge – so, indeed, it was quite a test.

In the upcoming Gavin & Stacey 2024 Christmas special, the actor brought joy to fans as he stepped back into the character of Rudi for a short appearance, drawing in an impressive viewership of over 19 million people during the holiday season.
