As a seasoned viewer of British crime dramas, having binged through countless series and spent countless hours dissecting every plot twist, I must say that the first-look images from Shetland season 9 have me genuinely excited. With Ashley Jensen and Alison O’Donnell returning to their respective roles, it’s clear that this season promises a continuation of the gripping storylines we’ve come to expect.
The BBC has shared some preliminary pictures from Shetland season 9, featuring the return of Ashley Jensen and Alison O’Donnell in their main roles. Moreover, an actor from Mr. Bates vs. The Post Office will be joining the cast.
In a past season, I stepped into the role of Detective Inspector Ruth Calder, taking over from DI Jimmy Perez (played by Douglas Henshall), who moved on to a fresh start at the conclusion of season 7.
Following a period of adjustment, Calder eventually felt comfortable in the new environment she was in, however, a series of troubling incidents in the forthcoming episodes will challenge both Calder and her partner DI Alison ‘Tosh’ McIntosh once more.
In the upcoming ninth season of Shetland, you’ll see Ian Hart making a special appearance. Ian Hart is the actor who recently portrayed investigator Bob Rutherford in Mr Bates vs The Post Office, and previously appeared in The Last Kingdom and Harry Potter: The Sorcerer’s Stone.
You can find an early image of Hart as new character Euan Rossi below.
In Shetland season 9, DI Calder, now living on the islands, finds himself plunged into a difficult situation when a friend of Tosh’s disappears.
Tosh and Calder embark on an intricate, heart-stopping probe triggered by mysterious vanishings and fatalities. This inquiry tests the boundary between their private lives and their work.

Vincent Regan, known for his role as Luther: The Fallen Sun, will appear among the guest stars during Season 9. He portrays the elder Harris patriarch, sharing screen time with his fictional sons Patrick, played by Ross Anderson, and Fergus, portrayed by Macleod Stephen.
In the final initial image, you’ll find Robert Jack, who is also a fresh face, portraying the character of Ian Bett. (The Lost King)

Enthusiasts of the Shetland series can take comfort in knowing that alongside these fresh faces, familiar favorites such as Steven Robertson (Sandy), Lewis Howden (Billy), and Anne Kidd (Cora) will also be making a comeback.
