As a film enthusiast with a penchant for crime dramas and a soft spot for the breathtakingly beautiful landscapes of Scotland, I can hardly contain my excitement for the return of Shetland season 9! Having spent countless hours engrossed in the captivating narratives and enamored by the raw beauty of the Shetland Isles through my screen, I feel as if I’ve developed a silent bond with these remote islands.
Detective Inspector Ruth Calder and Detective Inspector Alison ‘Tosh’ McIntosh return to our screens, as the BBC has officially announced the release date for Shetland season 9 – an event happening earlier than expected!
Shetland will be back on BBC One and iPlayer on Wednesday 6th November at 9pm.
Back in March, it was confirmed that Shetland will run for another two seasons. Ashley Jensen will once again take on a leading role, replacing Douglas Henshall who is no longer part of the show.
Joining Jensen and Tosh co-star Alison O’Donnell in this production are Steven Robertson playing DC Sandy Wilson, Lewis Howden portraying Sergeant Billy McCabe, and Anne Kidd taking on the role of forensic pathologist Cora McLean.
Regarding the upcoming double series renewal, Jensen expressed his enthusiasm about revisiting the Shetland Isles once more to embody the intriguingly complex character DI Ruth Calder. The response to the previous series was astonishing, and he’s eagerly looking forward to untangling even more mystery.
The Shetland Islands are truly awe-inspiring – undeniably, one of the most remarkable and distinctive filming sites I’ve ever visited. I can hardly wait to hop back onto that small aircraft and return there as soon as possible.
