As a huge fan of Shinichiro Watanabe’s work, I am beyond excited for the upcoming Adult Swim anime, Lazarus. With his previous masterpieces like Cowboy Bebop and Carole & Tuesday under his belt, I have no doubt that Lazarus will be another captivating and thought-provoking addition to the anime world. The announcement of a first look at Comic-Con 2024 is a welcome treat for fans, as we’ve only had brief glimpses of this new project so far. With Adult Swim livestreaming the premiere episodes for many of their new series, including Lazarus, it feels like we’re one step closer to finally experiencing this new universe that Watanabe has created. The involvement of Chad Stahelski in designing action sequences and Sola Entertainment producing further fuels my anticipation. I can hardly wait to see how the story unfolds and what twists and turns await us in this dystopian future where a miracle cure-all drug comes with a deadly price. Bring it on, Lazarus!

At San Diego Comic-Con 2024, Adult Swim will unveil a sneak peek of “Lazarus,” an exciting new anime project led by acclaimed director Shinichiro Watanabe. Known for his work on fan favorites like “Cowboy Bebop” and “Carole & Tuesday,” Watanabe has teamed up with Adult Swim to create an original series. First announced in 2023 with a teaser trailer, we can expect more detailed information about this highly-anticipated project soon.

As an avid fan, I’m thrilled to share that Adult Swim has made an exciting announcement! They will be live-streaming the premiere episodes of new series like “Rick and Morty: The Anime” and “Common Side Effects” on their official YouTube channel during San Diego Comic-Con 2024 on July 26th, starting at 7:30PM. This special event won’t just include these full-length premieres but also sneak peeks into upcoming projects like “Uzumaki” and “Lazarus.” Although it may not be a complete premiere for “Lazarus,” we can expect to see an enticing trailer or, at the very least, a captivating clip that gives us a hint of what to anticipate from this new anime series when it eventually premieres.

What Is Lazarus?

Lazarus is a fresh, original anime production helmed by acclaimed director Shinichiro Watanabe at Studio MAPPA. The debut date for this upcoming series has yet to be disclosed, but we do know that Chad Stahelski, the mastermind behind “John Wick” action sequences, will be involved in its choreography. Additionally, Sola Entertainment is on board to oversee its distribution and collaboration with Adult Swim’s Toonami block for broadcast once it becomes available.

In the world of Adult Swim, the year is 2052, and peace and prosperity have taken over the globe. This new era is all thanks to Dr. Skinner and his revolutionary discovery – a miraculous drug called Hapuna. Hapuna cures all illnesses and erases pain, making it an essential part of everyday life. But then, three years after its introduction, Dr. Skinner disappears from the scene. The world moves on, but little do they know that Dr. Skinner is back – this time, with a sinister agenda.

The summary goes on to reveal that Skinner discloses Hapuna has a brief lifespan, implying anyone who consumed it will perish around three years from now. The impending demise looms ominously over this corrupt society. In response to this lethal announcement, a select team of five agents is assembled from various parts of the globe. They are named ‘Lazarus,’ with the objective to thwart Skinner’s scheme and create a cure prior to the deadline.
