As a passionate gamer this week, I’ve been thrilled to dive into Mortal Kombat 1 and experience the latest addition – Conan the Barbarian, joining the fray from the Khaos Reigns DLC. The action doesn’t stop there though! T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgement Day is still on the horizon.
Ed Boon, the Mortal Kombat co-creator and director, has dropped some intriguing hints about more to come. In a Twitter thread, he shared that Mortal Kombat 1 has surpassed 5 million copies sold, making it one of the top 15 most played PlayStation 5 games. Towards the end of the conversation, Boon teased that with Conan now in players’ hands, they’re eager to keep pushing forward with future DLC content. I can hardly wait to see what’s next!
It’s worth mentioning that the post in question featured a scene from Fatality where T-1000 crushes Johnny Cage under a truck, mirroring an event from Terminator 2. The use of “trucking” was indeed a play on words. However, fans have been trying to figure out what exactly Boon meant by his post. Boon’s message has sparked a lot of discussion, with some wondering if he’s only referring to T-1000 when he talks about future DLC or if he means additional characters as well. Earlier speculations hinted at more DLC for Mortal Kombat 1, but it was said that NetherRealm had scrapped the DLC due to lower than expected sales from Khaos Reigns. But now, it seems like those rumors might not have been entirely accurate.
Fans quickly demanded further clarification from Boon about the potential inclusion of T-1000 as the final fighter in Mortal Kombat 1, but he remained silent on the matter, leaving fans speculating. In response, players voiced their preferred characters they’d like to see included in the game, such as Jade and Sonya Blade. Though classic characters from the Mortal Kombat series could potentially be added, there’s also a chance we might get more guest fighters. The Mortal Kombat universe offers several fitting candidates for inclusion, ranging from characters seen in past games to entirely new ones.
At present, fans ought to approach this information with caution. It’s unclear what Boon was referring to in his statement, and unless he offers further clarification, we can only speculate that T-1000 could be the sole “future DLC.” If this turns out to be the final addition, it would certainly make for a fitting conclusion, and the hints dropped so far are quite intriguing. It’s understandable that fans yearn for more content, but it’s also possible that NetherRealm is moving on to the next installment in the series.
