Two families are living through what feels like a TV show plot.
Indeed, for Kevin McMahon, his life bears an uncanny resemblance to plotlines from the Freeform series “Switched at Birth“. This assertion stems from the fact that, at 64 years old, he claims a hospital mistakenly sent him home with the wrong family due to their shared last names. Consequently, he is taking legal action against the hospital and revealing the emotional consequences of this mix-up.
In my journey as a lifestyle guide, I found myself in an intriguing situation when family members, as revealed in a court summons obtained by NBC News, decided to explore their roots through an Ancestry.com DNA test. The results they shared with me suggested a surprising revelation: my sister, Carol Vignola, had a brother named Ross McMahon, according to the test findings. This unexpected discovery has certainly added a new twist to our family tree!
According to the records, after conducting an examination, it was found out that Kevin and Ross were both born at Queens’ Jamaica Hospital Medical Center on May 26, 1960. Remarkably, their birth certificates bore sequential numbers.
Following her sharing of new findings, Kevin decided to undergo DNA testing as well. Surprisingly, the test results did not show any familial link to his sister Carol Vignola, nor his niece, but instead pointed towards an unknown brother named Keith McMahon, as stated in the filing.
After the occurrence, Kevin has handled claims related to both physical injuries as well as emotional distress and anguish.

He shared with The New York Post in a recent interview (published on April 6th) that it was as if he had found the final, crucial piece to complete a puzzle. This newfound knowledge clarified everything regarding why his upbringing turned out as it did.
Later on, Kevin clarified that when he was younger, it seemed like his father’s mother favored his three other siblings over him.

Following the discovery, Kevin opened up about how the knowledge has impacted his life.
In an interview with The New York Post, published on April 6, he expressed that it was as if he had found a crucial piece of the puzzle. This new understanding clarified everything regarding the nature of his childhood experiences.
Kevin elaborated by saying that as a child, he frequently sensed that his father’s mother showed him unique favoritism compared to his other three brothers and sisters.
He admitted that she thought I wasn’t his biological son, and indeed it was true. This belief left me feeling insignificant and shattered my self-confidence.
Ever since I uncovered my biological ties, specifically with the one who’s said to have been switched with me – none other than Ross himself – I’ve come to realize that his childhood was vastly distinct from mine.
Kevin mentioned that his biological paternal father, whom Keith refers to as his ‘blood brother’, was a huge fan of Ross, always backing and supporting him. Kevin expressed that it would have been wonderful to experience such unwavering loyalty.
