The rumor mill is heating up on the topic of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next Black Panther.
Due to Chadwick Boseman’s untimely death from colon cancer in 2020, Marvel had to alter their future plans for Black Panther’s character, King T’Challa. After a period of two years, they made adjustments to the Black Panther sequel by passing on T’Challa’s powers to his younger sister Shuri, who now serves as the Wakandan superhero.
Rumor Points to Another New Black Panther in the MCU
In the March 27 edition of “The Hot Mic” podcast, hosted by John Rocha and Jeff Sneider, there were whispers about the potential future of Black Panther, Wakanda’s guardian.
When Rocha inquired from Sneider if the movie “Doomsday” might feature T’Challa or T’Chaka, who were both previously Black Panther mantle bearers but are now deceased within the MCU, Sneider promptly answered, “I believe it will.
When queried about the matter, Sneider appeared a bit uncertain in his response, yet he appeared steadfast in his convictions regarding Marvel Studios’ plans for T’Challa.
It seems quite unclear to me. To put it another way, as far as I can tell, they’re not referring to the original Black Panther, T’Challa, but rather a new character taking over the role, possibly his son or a different individual entirely. The actor chosen for this part has already become a superhero in another franchise, so there’s a lot of pressure on them to live up to expectations.
Fans of Marvel Cinematic Universe may recall the mid-credit scene from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” where Shuri journeys to Haiti and meets Nakia. In this encounter, the former member of the Wakandan Special Forces reveals an unexpected detail – she has a young boy, approximately 5 or 6 years old.
The child who goes by the name given to him by Nakia, Toussaint or “Divine Love Konadu-Sun,” is also the son of the late T’Challa. However, when speaking with his Aunt Shuri, he prefers to introduce himself as “‘Prince T’Challa,’ son of ‘King T’Challa.'”
In a moment before the occurrence known as the Blip, T’Challa’s parents conceived him, leading to T’Challa’s entrance into this world prematurely, since his father, T’Challa senior, was taken away from existence prior to his on-screen death in 2024.
If we accept what Jeff Sneider is saying literally, then it seems Marvel Studios plans to incorporate the character Toussaint into their ongoing Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) narrative, potentially in either “Avengers: Doomsday” or “Avengers: Secret Wars”.
Beyond this, it seems that Sneider suggested the character might be portrayed as an adult or alternatively, a version from another universe, with a fresh actor considered for the part.
Sneider, being a well-connected figure in Hollywood, isn’t always right on the mark, much like others in his circle. So, his comments about the latest Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe might not be completely reliable.
As a huge fan, I can’t help but express my excitement as Ryan Coogler, the talented director behind both “Black Panther” films, dives into the early stages of pre-production for the upcoming franchise sequel. (Learn more about the potential release date for Black Panther 3.)
It’s noteworthy that Coogler recently appeared as a guest on the popular radio show, “The Breakfast Club,” which is broadcast from New York City in the mornings.
While Coogler was a guest, the host made it clear that he should not consider re-casting T’Challa, and this statement visibly unsettled Coogler.
The director seemed deliberately vague as he hesitated while responding. In the end, he avoided addressing the question directly, stating that he would talk about it “later on.
It is still unknown if either of the upcoming Avengers films or Black Panther 3 will introduce a new Black Panther character. However, Shuri, the latest hero in the MCU, has been confirmed to take on this role in Avengers: Doomsday, as announced during its cast reveal livestream.
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on May 1, 2026.
