This week, I’m thrilled to be part of a team basking in the glory of our show’s incredible accolades at the Golden Globes. Hiroyuki Sanada, Anna Sawai, and Tadanobu Asano, my esteemed colleagues, each received significant acting awards, while the prestigious title of Best Television Series – Drama was bestowed upon Shōgun itself. It’s a momentous occasion for us all!

Following a remarkable streak at the Emmy Awards in September, during which the historical drama amassed 18 awards – an unprecedented feat, Asano unfortunately did not win the Supporting Actor category. Instead, this accolade went to Billy Crudup from The Morning Show.

Winning an award at the Golden Globes softens the blow of his previous snub, as Shogun is also a candidate for prestigious honors at the Critics’ Choice Awards and Independent Spirit Awards – events scheduled to unfold within the next few weeks.

Inquire about Toda Mariko: What is she known for? She serves as an invaluable translator between Blackthorne and Toranaga due to her proficiency in both English and Japanese. Known as a “mysterious Christian noblewoman representing the last of a disgraced lineage,” she grapples with balancing her growing bond with Blackthorne, her religious devotion that rescued her, and her loyalty to her deceased father’s legacy.

Have I encountered Anna Sawai anywhere before? She initially gained popularity as a singer in a Japanese girl group, and later returned to acting in 2018 with parts in Giri/Haji and F9. However, she is best known for her roles in the Apple TV+ series Pachinko and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

Moeka Hoshi plays Usami Fuji

Could we rephrase that as: “Who is Lady Usami Fuji?” or “Who is Lady Fuji, the granddaughter of Hiromatsu, a close friend of Lord Toranaga?” Both sentences convey that Usami Fuji is a woman and that she has a connection to the lord through her grandfather.
