Shonen Jump Is Getting Ready to End Its First Big Series of 2025

Weekly Shonen Jump, published by Shueisha, is set to release its first issue of the new year shortly, marking the end of one of its long-running series as it reaches its peak. Throughout 2024, Shonen Jump has undergone numerous changes with several new series gaining popularity, such as Takeru Hokazono’s “Kagurabachi.” Additionally, some long-standing franchises concluded their runs, including “My Hero Academia” and “Jujutsu Kaisen,” by publishing their final chapters. It appears that another significant ending is on the horizon for the magazine in the near future.

2024 saw several series conclude in Shonen Jump, and it appeared that Mission: Yozakura Family was next on the chopping block. This manga has been wrapping up its final storyline throughout the year, and with the publication of Chapter 257 last week, Shueisha announced that the story will reach its peak in the upcoming issue. With only one more chapter left before it concludes (or potentially two more if an epilogue is included), Mission: Yozakura Family is getting ready to say goodbye.

How Will Mission: Yozakura Family End?

Yozakura Family’s Grandest Mission (2024)

The Yozakura Family, in the year 2024, has been battling against Asa and, after years of struggle, the epic confrontation reached its climax last year, concluding the fight for good. This momentous event not only marked the end of their fierce battle but also paved the way for new adventures. The Yozakura Family now embarks on their most significant mission yet.

During the time jump before the final story arcs, our beloved characters Taiyo and Mutsumi got married – a detail that fans didn’t get to witness in the series. However, it seems that this heartwarming event has been intentionally reserved for a fitting conclusion to their incredible journey.

Chapter 257 of “Yozakura Family” mission drew us nearer to the grand finale, introducing the Cherry Blossom Vows Ceremony – a unique wedding event where the entire family, along with friends, gather to witness Taiyo and Mutsumi renewing their vows. Despite accepting Taiyo as a suitable spouse for Mutsumi, Kyoichiro had been hesitant due to his wish for Mutsumi to be genuinely content without the Yozakura Family’s weight on her shoulders. Now that she is happy, both can freely marry and celebrate what may be their most spectacular party yet.

What Does This Ending Mean for Shonen Jump in 2025?

If the story of “Mission: Yozakura Family” concludes within one or two more installments, it signifies that Shonen Jump is on the verge of saying goodbye to another of its iconic series from its past. Currently, only Eiichiro Oda’s “One Piece” and Yoshihiro Togashi’s “Hunter x Hunter” are still running in the magazine with extended tenures. Notably, “Mission: Yozakura Family” is the last series that started in the 2010s to continue publication in Shonen Jump. Following its conclusion, all remaining series will have their beginnings in the 2020s, including “Undead Unluck” by Yoshifumi Tozuka, “Sakamoto Days” by Yuto Suzuki, and “Me & Roboco” by Shuhei Miyazaki – which all debuted in 2020.

The magazine’s current era will come to an end, leaving only its latest series to be published weekly. This change brings a new, refreshed appearance for the magazine and provides opportunities for other series with strong fan followings to shine. We eagerly await the arrival of the next big series!
