Under the roof of Shonen Jump, numerous popular anime series reside. Series such as Dragon Ball, One Piece, My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, and Bleach are just a few from this influential manga publication that has left an indelible mark on the anime landscape. In an upcoming anime venture, some of the top voice actors who have breathed life into these iconic shonen series are uniting to explore a new universe. If Me And Roboco hasn’t caught your attention yet, you might want to take a look at its upcoming anime adaptation.
The series “Me and Roboco,” created by Shuhei Miyazaki, was initially published in 2020 through Weekly Shonen Jump. Since then, it has continued to release new chapters. The franchise found its animation debut in a 2022 television series, which consisted of twenty-eight episodes and featured Studio Gallop introducing Roboco and her peculiar world. In the “shonen” genre, the future is dominated by robot maids called “OrderMaids,” and the main character, Bondo Taira, yearns for one to join his family. However, he ends up with more than he anticipated when he encounters Roboco, a robot who struggles to perform tasks as efficiently as her cybernetic counterparts.
Shonen Jump’s Finest Return
After the completion of its first season, “Me And Roboco” is set to debut its first full-length movie this coming April. Drawing inspiration from several popular superhero franchises, this Shonen Jump production delves into the multiverse concept, inviting back the original voice actors to play humorous alternate versions of Roboco. Notable actors from shows like “Fist of The North Star”, “Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian”, and “Dragon Ball” are anticipated to make an appearance, bringing their unique talents to play some intriguing characters.
In this production, Shigeru Chiba, known as the narrator of Fist of The North Star, assumes the character of a post-apocalyptic Robot from a future timeline. Meanwhile, Sumire Uesaka, better known as Alya, portrays a Robot from a brighter, more lighthearted and comedic romance-themed setting. Lastly, Masako Nozawa, famously known for her role as Goku in Dragon Ball, will join the cast by playing a comical, Showa Era version of the same Robot character.
Past Shonen Jump Crossovers
Instead of meeting through anime, Shueisha characters often cross paths due to various video games. Over the years, there have been numerous console releases where popular Shonen characters have squared off against each other. However, one game stands out among the rest for its compelling narrative. Jump Force brought together a large number of anime characters, not just having them fight, but also weaving a story that featured many heroes and villains joining forces with their original voice actors.
Indeed, when it comes to anime, no single project has gathered all Shonen Jump characters together in one storyline yet, although there are notable exceptions. For instance, a special episode of One Piece saw the Z-Fighters and Straw Hat Pirates teaming up, with Luffy and Goku engaging in an exhilarating fight. While Me And Roboco may not feature characters like Deku and Tanjiro venturing into a robotic world, this crossover comes as the closest approximation.
