In the first seven seasons, Steven Yeun portrayed one of the beloved characters on the show. After his character, Glenn Rhee, met a tragic end, he hasn’t appeared again; however, the actor who plays Glenn’s son is optimistic that there might be a cameo opportunity in the upcoming spinoff series called “The Walking Dead: Dead City“.
Dead City”
The narrative unfolds in the city, focusing on Maggie (played by Lauren Cohan), Glenn’s wife, and their son’s life who was born after Glenn’s tragic demise at the hands of Negan (portrayed by Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Since then, significant time leaps have occurred. Recently, in an interview, Kim expressed interest in having Steven Yeun reprise his role as Glenn. However, he acknowledged that it’s unlikely for Glenn to experience any visions of his father, considering they never had the chance to meet due to Glenn’s untimely passing.
Kim suggested an intriguing idea: “Perhaps we could have a flashback scene featuring Glenn, or even introduce Glenn’s spirit! This might be exciting. Hershel hasn’t had much interaction with Glenn before, so it’s unclear if he would recognize his father in that instant.
Kim went on, expressing her joy about portraying Hershel indefinitely: he’s such an enjoyable character for me. It’s fascinating to play someone who is so different from myself. Acting out a complex character like this provides a unique challenge and makes it all the more exciting,” she said.
It wouldn’t be surprising if a deceased character like Glenn re-emerged in the series given that similar events have occurred frequently in the past. The use of flashback sequences and hallucinations has been effective in bringing back characters, so it’s possible that we could see Glenn again in The Walking Dead: Dead City. Since the main characters share a strong bond with Glenn, his influence is still noticeable. If Steven Yeun were to reprise his role as Glenn, there might not be a more suitable time than a guest appearance on Dead City.
Would Steven Yeun Even Be Interested in a Walking Dead Return?
One potential challenge could be coordinating schedules, given that Steven Yeun has been quite occupied since departing from The Walking Dead. To date, the actor has not shown any public enthusiasm for revisiting the franchise, which suggests he might be focusing on distancing himself from his iconic character, Glenn. It’s plausible that Yeun may decline a return to the role if he is intent on moving beyond his popular portrayal of Glenn in The Walking Dead. This uncertainty makes it challenging to foresee whether or not a cameo will materialize.
The show “The Walking Dead: Dead City” can be found on the streaming platform, AMC+. Fresh installments are released every Sunday, both on AMC and AMC+.
