While playing the game Avowed, you’ll encounter numerous options and significant choices that you must make. These choices accumulate during your gaming experience, influencing the way characters interact with you and shaping the sequence of events, starting from your very first encounter with Ilora soon after landing.
Upon first encountering Ilora shortly following a shipwreck and the subsequent exploration of the fort, she may not have a favorable impression of you due to your divine appearance. However, due to the general perception of individuals like you, it’s hard for people to know how to react. Despite her initial impression, she might be hesitant to let you free her from prison, even though her future actions could prove beneficial. Here’s some insight on whether or not you should grant Ilora’s freedom in the game Avowed.
Is it better to free Ilora in Avowed?
In the beginning of Avowed, freeing Ilora influences later occurrences, though these changes may not be significant or earth-shattering.
If you free her from her cell, she becomes involved in a secondary mission titled “Escape Plan”. In this mission, Ilora assists by persuading a smuggler who is willing to aid refugees, but insists on payment from you. With Ilora’s help, she manages to convince the smuggler that it would be more beneficial for them to collaborate with you instead of making the refugees pay extra. As a result, the smuggler assists the refugees without any additional cost to you.
During your initial encounter with Ilora, it becomes clear that she’s a smuggler as you converse with her and Garryck. Her demeanor changes when she learns you represent the Aedyr Empire, and she seems displeased. As you run out of things to ask her, she admits that she was illegally transporting goods past the Aedyr checkpoints in the region. Unfortunately, Garryck, a faithful subject of Aedyr, makes the conversation challenging, trying to persuade you not to trust her.
Indeed, Ilora brings attention to the fact that the soldiers stationed at the fort had fallen mad, turning violent and killing one another. This was apparent on her initial day in her cell, where they were heard speaking nonsensically and the following day, they engaged in combat and murder. This tragic event is a crucial link to the central story, as it’s the primary reason Aedyr’s Emperor tasked your character with investigating this region and uncovering the truth behind the chaos. While Garryck remains skeptical of Ilora, her account appears to be accurate. Though Ilora may not have a substantial role in the main story of Avowed, she plays an essential part by helping you gather these vital pieces of information at the onset of your adventure.
It’s not a major advantage for you right now, but it would be beneficial to release Ilora. She lends a hand in the early stages of Avowed, and her assistance extends beyond this initial phase. Not only does she aid you in a future side quest, but upon leaving her cell, she assists you in escaping the entire fort, which reduces the difficulty of fights at this location. There’s no disadvantage to freeing her during this part of your gameplay; including her in your endeavor, even temporarily, is a smart move.
Leaving Ilora in her cell offers no benefits; she remains there without any advancement for you. In fact, it could potentially harm your progress more. It would be wiser to bring her along temporarily as an ally in Avowed, rather than refusing the aid of someone you just met, even if she seems displeased with your presence and distrustful of both you and the Aedyr Empire’s intentions.
