Should You Side With The Ward Or Dubny In Stalker 2?

As a seasoned Stalker, with years spent traversing the forsaken Exclusion Zone and navigating its treacherous politics, I can confidently say that siding with Dubny in this instance is a choice that aligns more closely with my own experiences and values. Having had numerous run-ins with the Ward’s rigid ideologies and their penchant for unnecessary bloodshed, I find it hard to trust them completely.

In the game “Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl,” players frequently find themselves in a position where aligning with one group necessitates going against another. Following the player’s choice regarding Professor Hermann’s fate, they must then choose whether to aid Dubny in executing the Noontide attack on SIRCAA, or support the Ward and eliminate the Noontide troops. This decision will serve as a pivotal moment in the story of Stalker 2 and will influence the path towards a specific ending.

Should You Side With the Ward or Dubny in Stalker 2?

In the final act of the Wishful Thinking mission within Stalker 2, tragedy is inevitable, regardless of your decisions. The climax unfolds as you enter a chamber where Ward Soldiers are aiming their weapons at Dubny, a key figure from the Noontide faction who’s leading an attack on SIRCAA. Dubny will turn to Skif and inquire whether the gossip about the Monolith being housed within SIRCAA facilities holds any truth.

Following a quick exchange, Dubny will challenge Skif on his allegiance: is it with the Noontide/Spark/Richter group, or will he align himself with the Ward? We’ll examine each option to determine which one is more favorable.

Siding with Dubny and Going Against the Ward

If you decide to align with Dubny, it means you’re supporting Strider as well, along with both the Noontide and Spark factions. As Dubny engages the Ward soldiers, a path will be created by him fighting near Skif, enabling him to evade the hail of bullets. On his path to X11, Skif assists Strider in demolishing a wall to gain access to the room where they can confront Dr. Dalin about halting the artifact experiment.

The scene will conclude as the Monolithians are reactivated, prompting Skif to dive into tunnels to evade the SIRCAA facility, initiating the “To the Last Drop of Blood” mission. While this decision won’t definitively prevent you from eventually supporting the Ward in future events, it could potentially reinforce your opposition to the Ward faction, and may be moving you closer to the Richter/Spark ending for Stalker 2.

Siding with the Ward and Going Against Dubny

If you decide to align with Ward, you’ll find yourself at odds not only with Spark and Noontide factions but also Richter. Skif will have to take out Dubny and the Noontide troops in the vicinity, effectively disrupting Strider’s attack on SIRCAA. Following the battle, you’ll be moved to the X11 room where Dr. Dalin is getting ready to initiate the experiment.

Regardless of your decision here, the experiment is destined to fail, resulting in the Noontiders transforming back into Monolithians. This initiates the “Law and Order” mission within Stalker 2. Rather than Skif fleeing through the tunnels, he’ll instead rescue Dr. Dalin from the chaos and navigate through the SIRCAA facility. This choice also involves Skif encountering a Pseudogiant and making his escape by repeating similar actions as before.

Making this decision helps Skif align more tightly with Ward’s beliefs, earning the confidence of Col. Korshunov. This action moves the game’s storyline a little nearer to the “Ward ending” in Stalker 2.

Regardless of your choice here, Monolithians will become a major threat after completing “Wishful Thinking” and also lock you out of completing various side activities from Zalissya or Spark/Noontide factions. Be sure to complete other side missions first before completing the Wishful Thinking main mission in Stalker 2.
